Here's my 10-point response to your intervention at the @nytimes Climate Forward conference at #UNGA
1. Thank you for acknowledging that #LossAndDamageFinance requires trillions of US$, as experts estimated.
THREAD - 1/6
2. You now agree "in all honesty" that the most important thing to do is to mitigate to prevent #LossAndDamage, and the next most important thing is to help people adapt.
3. But, the graph clearly shows that the US failed to reduce its CO2 emissions, since @UNFCCC in 1992.
5. Since 2013, I've seen the US blocking every single discussion on #LossAndDamageFinance, by arm-twisting and threatening developing nations.

6. We didn't expect you to set up L&D Finance Facility (LDFF) in 6 weeks. You'd 10 yrs under WIM for #LossAndDamage to discuss the questions you now raise
7. Did you read this LDFF paper that answers your questions to constructively engage at #COP27?
8. Don't tell us your problems about the Congress! Your country is most responsible for causing the #ClimateCrisis so have to meet your international obligations.
10. You can't claim to be a climate leader by talking and forcing others, while your support to #FossilFuel industry continues. It's time for the US to act in solidarity at #COP27 and play its role in delivering #ClimateJusice.
On this final official day of COP28, we stand at a crossroads in our fight against climate change. The decisions made by leaders in the next few hours will shape our future.
🧵 1/10
#COP28
The latest iteration of the Global Stocktake (GST) text has shifted away from explicit language on 'phasing out fossil fuels.' This represents a significant regression in our commitment to combat fossil fuels, undermining previous efforts and our expectation from #COP28.
2/10
Instead, the text vaguely commits to 'reducing consumption and production' of fossil fuels by 2050, including contentious solutions like CCS, (not so green) hydrogen, nuclear, and “low carbon fuels” (read: gas) until 2050.
#LossAndDamage Ministerial, along the margins of the #UNGA, concludes with no resolution of key divisive issues.

A 🧵
1/ A substantial 'mountain to climb' to operationalise the Loss and Damage Fund by #COP28 climate conference this December.media.un.org/en/asset/k1z/k…
2/ Who contributes to the #LossAndDamage Fund and who receives funding remained the most divisive issues in the ministerial. Several developed nations spoke to *only* LDCs & SIDS as being the most vulnerable, ignoring people & communities affected in other developing countries.
3/ We told them it is unacceptable that countries like Libya & Pakistan who have suffered huge losses and damages are made ineligible to access #LossAndDamage funds.
Developed countries must stop their approach of divide and conquer.
I made an intervention for @CANIntl in the opening plenary urging them to put L&D Finance on the #COP27 agenda to establish L&D Finance Facility and deliver #ClimateJustice.
