I've had a shoulder issue for the last 15 months.

Symptoms are vague and fluctuating: neck pain + stiffness, shoulder pain + weakness, arm pain + weakness.

Some days are completely pain free, others it bothers me all day.

No one (4 osteopaths, 2 physiotherapists, 2 myotherapists and 1 GP) can give me a clear diagnosis, which makes me think there isn't one.

I can usually reproduce symptoms by lifting weights (esp overhead), wearing a heavy backpack.

Sometimes weights don't hurt and driving does.
My next step was to see a neurologist for a nerve conduction test, to rule out compressive neuropathy.

Indications: weakness, atrophy.

However, before that, I wanted to quantify my weakness, so I had an @sbntechnology AxIT session with @phsyioyves.

Thread: Blatant #ClimateDenial has lost. The new conflict is whether #ClimateChange is a crisis requiring urgent social and #economic transformation, or something we can adapt to incrementally while carrying on with business as usual. 1/40
2/ A recent opinion piece by Bjorn Lomborg in the @globeandmail is representative of the 'business as usual argument'. Let's deconstruct it to see how this gets passed off as the pragmatic point of view, and why it's false.…
3/ The basic tactic is this: provide a few common-sense truths to gain the air of pragmatism and then feed us the story we're desperate to hear: that everything will be fine, that growth will outpace #ClimateDamages and life can carry on as usual.

Need a quick overview of our new report assessing progress in preparing for the impacts of climate change in #England? Look no further! Read the full report…, take a look at our new infographic… or check out the following #thread
[1/10] Ministers must strengthen policy on adaptation & put resources in place to drive action to prepare for climate impacts in #England. Our report finds that support services/funding have been eroded over past 10yrs & latest National Adaptation Programme is not strong enough.
[2/10] There are many examples of dedicated officials+organisations doing great work to try to build resilience to #climate impacts. But a better, strategic national framework to underpin and drive action on the ground is needed. Piecemeal action does not match the scale of risk.

"Bringing Meaning & Life Back to Survivors of Critical Illness"

I'm looking forward to a great session with @ICU_Recovery + @JulieRoganCNS

Here are my slides to give you a sense of what the conversation may be about. Join us!
Mark Mikkelsen and I have been deeply influenced by Creditor's classic article

These graphics hopefully forthcoming from Oxford Textbook of Medicine edited by @icuresearch

Recovery-focus means thinking about preventing long-term harm, but also realizing critical illness is bad and some damage will occur given the limitations of our science and art

We need to help patients + families rehab but also ADAPT

Today is the 145th #birthday of great #Austrian poet Hugo von Hofmannsthal (1874-1929). He wrote both brilliant poetry and prose. He was a #monarchist and staunch supporter of the legendary Austro-Hungarian Empire; the outcome of #WWI was a blow to him.
..The poem of Hofmannsthal's reproduced below is one of his both earliest and most famous. It was first published in Dec. 1892 in Vol. 2 of #StefanGeorge's journal when Hofmannsthal was 18 years old, under a #pseudonym(which allowed him to hide his tender age).
I'll translate..
.. the poem (in #prose, without any attempt at recreating #rhyme or #rhythm).
There is a lyrical #adaptation of the poem, published while von Hofmannsthal still alive, in
Charles Wharton Stork: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘺𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘗𝘰𝘦𝘮𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘏𝘶𝘨𝘰 𝘷𝘰𝘯 𝘏𝘰𝘧𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘭.

RT this [THREAD] of articles if you'd like to ask Twitter's most popular UK political commentators - the vast majority of whom seldom or never mention the Ecological Emergency - for analysis of the politics of catastrophic #ClimateBreakdown, #MassExtinction & #EcologicalCollapse.
Dear @jonsnowC4 @peston @bbclaurak @bbcnickrobinson @afneil

'we could be looking at an epic extinction event, caused by ourselves, which could include exterminating our own species, or at least what we call “civilization,” in as little as nine years.'…
Hi @OwenJones84 & @paulmasonnews

'We are already facing mass extinction. There is no removing the heat we have introduced into the oceans, nor the 40bn tons of CO2 we pump into the atmosphere every single year. There may be no changing what is happening'…

this is a long thread on #nauru, where i spent last week. nauru is currently most visible as a site for australia’s offshore detention of asylum seekers and refugees. it is also the location of a longstanding #phosphate mine which covers over 2/3 of the island 1/22
#nauru is experiencing considerable #climatechange. im going to outline some of the social-environmental stresses i observed that nauruans, refugees and asylum seekers are facing, and why we need to talk about #colonialism and #environmental racism for #climatejustice 2/22
#nauru is a beautiful island. its main resource is #phosphate. germany colonised nauru in the late 1800s and in the early 1900s the british found phosphate and started to exploit it for fertiliser and munitions with australia and nz, who became nauru’s trustees in the 1920s 3/22
