2. First, the legal issue. They are not legal. Period.
According to Ukrainian legislation, a referendum on the change of state borders (that is, on the adoption of new territories and secession of a certain part of #Ukraine) can be held under certain conditions:
3.
–The referendum cannot be held during martial law.
–President appoints a referendum if the signatures of 3 million citizens of Ukraine have been collected.
–The referendum is held throughout the territory of #Ukraine.
Are these conditions met?
Of course not!
4.These referendums were announced by so-called local authorities, which weren't elected by residents of these territories. De facto, these are putin's minions. 🇺🇦Election Commission, which should control referendums in 🇺🇦doesn't take part in this.
Who does?🇷🇺Commission & 🇷🇺army
5. Russian military participates in the referendums. They walk the streets with guns, go to people's homes & force them to sign ballots. This is the same Crimean scenario with little green men.
During the week, I'll publish many photos with 🇷🇺military at the referendums.
6. Who will count the turnout & votes? 🇷🇺election commission. Have you seen at least 1 non-fabricated election in #Russia? Of course, not!
The numbers will reflect #Putin’s wishes, not that of the local population.
7. What about the real data?
More than half (and probably 2/3) of the citizens left the 4 regions in which #Russia is holding so-called referendums. They were fleeing the Russian war and persecution. And now, while they are gone, #Putin decides what to do with their homeland.
8. The situation is even worse. #Russia wants to annex #Zaporizhzhia region within the borders of the region, while it doesn't control the most densely populated city of this region, but only territory where 1/3 of the region's residents lived before the war. And much less now.
9. Well, what about the public opinion of those regions? In the referendum on #Ukraine’s independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 the position of the local population was pretty straightforward.
10. And these are the results of the survey regarding the war that Russia started in 2014. Today, the results would be much worse for #Russia, because Ukrainians saw all the horrors that Russia did in #Mariupol, #Bucha, #Izyum.
11. Now, 92% of Ukrainian citizens have a negative attitude towards #Russia. By regions: in the South (including #Zaporizhzhia & #Kherson regions) 90% have a bad attitude towards Russia, good–1%.
In the East (including #Donetsk & #Luhansk regions) bad–85%, good–4%
12. During these so-called referendums, I will supplement this thread with photos from there, as well as stories from local residents.

#Russia decided to hold fake referendums in the occupied territories of #Ukraine with the aim of annexing the territory. The Russian military administration signed a decree on holding such a pseudo-referendum in the #Zaporizhzhia region.
Of course, this referendum is not legal and cannot be recognized. Because the referendum cannot be held by the occupying government, at gunpoint of Russian army, without an election commission and international observers.
1.6 million people live in the #Zaporizhzhia region, which #Russia wants to annex. But only about 200К live in the territories occupied by🇷🇺& that not by their own will, but because occupiers don't let out them. 🇷🇺wants 12.5% of the population to "choose" the fate of the region
. @mondigroup is trying to sit on 2 chairs.
For the US & the UK, where it's the market leader, they declare that they're leaving the Russian market, but in the meantime they're actually expanding business in #Russia & financing the campaign "We are Russia! We are together!"
Isn't it time for the Americans & the British to kick @mondigroup out of their market?
I'm sure you can do without them.
Join the campaign. Share tweets calling on Mondi groups to choose a side: leave the Russian market or leave the American, British & European markets!
🧵The editorial board’s @nytimes recent piece is appalling. Looks like #russian propaganda, something you do not expect from a renowned media. This thread is about that⬇️
In its new article, @nytimes writes that betting on 🇺🇦 military victory is only "dangerous assumption" & that returning all 🇺🇦territories under 🇺🇦 control is an unrealistic goal. The editorial office is worried that help of 🇺🇸 to 🇺🇦 will lead to protracted, costly & drawn-out war
Talking about costly war is low. It’s like putting price tag on freedom & democracy. For country proud of its democratic achievements this should be obvious!Furthermore might I remind u that protracted war has been going on for 8 years & world chose to pretend it wasn't happening
🧵Today, #Putin's Nazi #Russia celebrates Victory Day in #WorldWarII. But who really won the war, whose victory Russia so wants to appropriate?
And who were the biggest victims of this war?
More on this, as well as about #Ukraine and Ukrainians in WWII in this thread⬇️
#Russia often speaks of its power based on a ‘fact’ that they won WWII, and often claim that Germany owes them something, because Russia was the biggest victim of the war.
But this is a manipulation.
France, UK, US & USSR (which consisted not only of🇷🇺but also🇺🇦& others) won WWII
#Russia always forgets the contributions made by US, UK & other allies who fought against Nazis.
They also forget that they gained all their military power thanks to Lend-Lease. Yep, US provided USSR with more than half of the weapons used by USSR. Hundreds of billions of $.
🧵#russia can't be a member of #UN Security Council.
But they have never been a member of @UN Security Council.
Moreover, they have never been a member of UN. And never joined UN.
#Russia isn't a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
A permanent member of the UN Security Council is a privilege that allows you to veto any decision.
The UN Charter clearly states 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council: the US, the UK, France, China & USSR/2
Yeah, It's the Soviet Union, which disintegrated 30 years ago, that is a permanent member of the #UN Security Council. Legally, it still exists in UN documents.
This is a big manipulation of #Russia.
They've appropriated a seat in the Security Council without any rights to it/3
The information that the civilians will be evacuated from Kramatorsk by trains at this time is public. The russians knew that there would be thousands of people. But to strike at civilians was their goal⬇️
Yesterday at night, separatist Telegram channels warned people of #Donbas that it was dangerous to evacuate from #Kramatorsk and Sloviansk by rail and called for the use of cars.
▫️This morning at 10:13 a video of the launch of 2 missiles was published. It was filmed in Shakhtarsk. This town has been occupied for 8 years.
▫️The first reports of the attack on the #Kramatorsk railway station were released at about 10:45.
