Three-member Commission for Inquiry set up by the government to look into giving #SC status to Dalits who have converted to any religion other than Sikhism or Buddhism. | @al_lakshman reports
The Commission will be headed by former #CJI #KGBalakrishnan and its members being Prof. Sushma Yadav (UGC member) and Ravinder Kumar Jain (Retd IAS). The government has set a time of two years for the Commission to submit its report.
In addition, the Commission has also been tasked with examining the implications of granting #SC status to Dalit converts on existing SC communities in the country.
The Commission will also examine the changes SC persons go through on converting to other religions and the implications of the same on the question of giving them Scheduled Caste status. Read more: trib.al/1CQIHjh
