If we are in a climate emergency... It's not in lives lost due to natural disasters or an increase in geophysical, hydrological, meteorological,or climatological disasters. So where specifically is the emergency? It's in the failed predictions. #climate#ClimateEmergency
No increase in global land area burned and no increase in global major hurricane frequency. Where is this emergency I keep hearing about?
No increase in economic damage from droughts. Where is this emergency?
There is, however, an emergency in our fundamental misunderstanding of forcing within the climate system and the climate models.
"Our observational analyses render models with large positive feedbacks implausible..."
There is no decrease in crop yields. Again, where is the climate emergency?
So, although there is no metric by which the state of the climate can be considered an emergency, the constant catastrophizing of all weather events by fear mongering adults has caused an emergency in the mental health of young people.
On a dynamic planet the climate always changes and we are relatively cool as compared to the last 5 million years as exemplified by the temperature stripes below.
The climate system is extremely complex and disentangeling natural variability from anthropogenic changes remains difficult.
Although there is likely a consensus that humans can influence the climate, there is absolutely no consensus on the amount of anthropogenic warming currently occuring. Furthermore, the focus on consensus is the opposite of how science is done.
And the simple fact still remains that after all the hysteria there has been almost no change in the rate of increase in atmospheric CO2 concentration. What is this all for? Where is the climate emergency?
Over the past month or so I have been writing a small multi-part series about the most newsworthy climate papers from the last decade. It's fascinating to see how the media latches on to the most sensational papers. This is how you construct a false climate crisis narrative. 🧵
Part 1: "In summary, the most newsworthy climate paper in 2014, claiming that the USA will see an increase in lightning strikes and lighting-associated fatalities, injuries, and property damage, due to AGW, has not been observed." irrationalfear.substack.com/p/examining-th…
Part 2: "In summary, the most newsworthy climate paper in 2015 predicted that Southwest Asia would become uninhabitable due to climate change. In the 8 years since that publication, with the exception of worn-torn nations, all have grown in population." irrationalfear.substack.com/p/examining-th…
Currently, about half the world's population relies on synthetic fertilizers produced from fossil fuels. Before you go blocking traffic and glueing yourself to something you better have a solution to ensure that these people won't starve in your plan to save the planet. #climate
The Haber-Bosch process is a chemical process that converts nitrogen gas (N₂) from the air and hydrogen gas (H₂) from natural gas or other hydrocarbon sources into ammonia (NH₃). It was developed in the early 20th century and is one of the most important industrial processes.
This comment by @IPCC_CH is incorrect. There has been NO increase in the frequency or intensity of extreme weather events 👇. The increase from the '70s to the late 90's is an artifact of increased global interconnectivity and better reporting. In fact, the @UN Office of...
...Disaster Risk Reduction (@UNDRR) was started in late 1999. In reality, in the last 25 years, the number of natural disasters and extreme weather events has DECLINED. Let's look at costs and damage...
The losses associated with natural disasters normalized to GDP, to account for population growth and increases in infrastructure in disaster-prone areas, have also DECLINED. Let's look at deaths...
