Grateful to Ms Perera for posting. It summarises topics for reflection for #SriLanka. First,she refers to #Sinhalese as the only ones who have a claim on #IndependenceDay.If she would have studied history she would know that Tamils,Muslims,Malays etc were part of this struggle.2/

Her comment already disregards the minorities of #SriLanka. It is such a shame as she lives in London in a multicultural society & speaks of #SriLanka as a mono ethnic society in 2023. After all, Sri Lankans have survived a civil war & Easter attacks to not be divided by race.3/

She refers to betrayal.But her family name is "Perera" which is originally a Portuguese name. No offence to all #Perera's of #LKA but isn't this the biggest hypocrisy to refer to 🇵🇹 as "Parangi" a racist term, mentioning those who betrayed while her ancestors took up a 🇵🇹 name?4/

Then she finally expressed her displeasure about those who raise black flags.🏴 So Ms Perera living in London has a issue with #SriLankans who raise black flags back home? Does she even understand that it's about the excessive costs of #IndependenceDay celebrations ...5/

...Or about not having freedom to live freely in #SriLanka... or having faced horrendous atrocities like torture, missing family members...or being disgusted by corruption.. Ms Perera seems to object to 🏴because her patriotism is hurt. 6/

Now she is entitled to her views.But I am intrigued to hear from her Twitter friends with anonymous names who will come to lecture about how hurt she feels that we called her out. In my humble view this post oozes racism, hypocrisy & most of all stupidity. 7/

The lady doth protest too much. After making an ignorant post blaming civic resistance w/ a derogative term to 🇵🇹 in colonial times, not knowing that her family name is of Portugese origin, now she plays the victim card.🙈

Summary:I am also Peiris.There is no such discrimination.When you try to tweet about things w/o knowing the topic & get into a fix, you are diverting to "discrimination card" to escape the humiliation of ignorance. It would have been good if you knew the origin of your name. 9/

Never understood why certain people tweet about things thinking they are having "fun" but when they get called out,cannot handle the responses.Being an "educator" this lady should read up on what is "civic education" before resorting to such comments. What a shame! 10/
