@PierrePoilievre's dishonest and shameful 'blame it all on Trudeau' campaign for things the PM does not control rages on. In fact, the PM does not control #foodpricing, #fueloilpricing, #rentpricing, #mortgagepaymentpricing or #interestrates in Canada.
IMO @PierrePoilievre 's dishonourable rhetoric on rising food, gas, oil prices, interest rates & rents is evidence of intent to deceive.
Why doesn't the media challenge him to provide alternative proposals instead of publishing his attacks on Trudeau for things he can't control?
@PierrePoilievre knows that #groceryprices result from factors that include yields, weather, wildfires, drought, global supply chain problems and grocery chain price gouging, etc. Implying otherwise is #misinformation.
1/2 #cdnpoli Grocery chains are under pressure to switch from HFCs to natural refrigerants to curb climate change. Shoppers may buy local but those efforts could be negated by potent greenhouse gases leaking from supermarket fridges cbc.ca/news/science/h…
2/3 Members of Parliament have summoned the heads of Canada’s largest #grocerystore chains to answer for rising #foodprices. The proposal received unanimous support from Liberal, Conservative and Bloc Quebecois MPs on the committee.
3/3 Last year, the Liberal government ordered the Competition Bureau to study food prices at grocery chains and whether competition between companies is contributing to higher prices. A new study began in October & MPs have added more meetings and witnesses, aside from the CEOs.
1/2 When it comes to #fueloilprices @PierrePoilievre knows The PM doesn't set them. The price of oil is set in the global marketplace so the supply/demand balance determines the price of O&G products around the world. Provinces & territories can regulate prices,
2/2 Quebec and the Atlantic provinces do but other provinces & territories have failed to regulate #homeheatingoilprices.
Don't look to the PM to address this because the federal govt of Canada has the constitutional authority to regulate #gasolineprices ONLY in an emergency.
1/2 @PierrePoilievre a landlord, knows landlords set #rentprices based on #housingsupply in their area, a percentage of the home's #assessedvalue, #mortgagepayments & interest while also taking into account average rental prices in their area & #Provincialrentalrestrictions
2/2 British Columbia - During-a-tenancy Landlords can only increase rent once in a 12 month period by an amount permitted by law or an additional amount approved in advance by an arbitrator. The annual allowable rent increase for 2023 will be 2% www2.gov.bc.ca
1/3 @PierrePoilievre knows that Provincial & Municipal governments dictate how & where #housing is developed and managed. They determine subdivision & zoning, how much housing is zoned for, where it is sited & building codes.
2/3 Lack of #housingsupply is the culprit behind housing affordability woes. For 2 decades NIMBY's have prevented more supply as they did not vote for mayors & councillors who promote either increased density in existing residential areas or what's referred to as "urban sprawl"
3/3 The federal govt plan ie. The Liberal Housing Plan is here ➡️liberal.ca/housing/

Where is the CPC housing plan and if they do not have one then ask yourself why #PierrePoilievre is pointing his finger @JustinTrudeau.
While the Bank of Canada (BoC) takes steps to curb the #costofliving, we can all make changes to stay on track financially. A Home. For Everyone: The Liberal Housing Plan via @YouTube
@JustinTrudeau doesn't set #mortgagerates or #interestrates They are individually set by each bank. When rates are moved by one, other banks follow suit. The prime rate is based on what the Bank of Canada (BoC) sets as their overnight target rate. And @PierrePoilievre knows that.
1/2 Economic Outlook - Canada. Growth in real GDP is projected to slow from 3.2% this year to 1% in 2023 before strengthening to 1.3% in 2024. Higher borrowing costs will weigh on consumer spending while export growth moderates in near term amid deteriorating conditions abroad.
2/2 Softer aggregate demand will relieve pressure on capacity, aided by continued recovery in non-housing investment. oecd.org/economy/canada…
1/3 Canada's debt-to-GDP ratio in 2022 is less than one-third of the average among G7 countries. The IMF expects Canada to have the 2nd strongest economic growth in the G7 in 2023, projecting that real GDP in Canada will expand by 3.3 percent in 2022 and 1.5 percent in 2023.
2/3 Canada is expected to have the lowest total #governmentdeficit as a percentage of GDP in the G7 this year—a track Canada is forecast to maintain for the next three years. Canada is also expected to have the lowest #netdebtburden as a share of GDP in the G7.
3/3 Consistent with the recent OECD projections Canada will continue to be a leader in the G7, with the smallest deficit- and net debt-to-GDP ratios. canada.ca/en/department-…
1/2 @PierrePoilievre has tried to convince Canadians that Canada is broken. Well, it isn't. The ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our economy but we are adapting and doing well, which is more than can be said of Canada's economy under Harper's conservatives
2/2 that didn't have a pandemic challenge and it's far-reaching financial impacts to address.
6 charts show Stephen Harper's Conservative Govt has the worst economic record of any Prime Minister since World War II pressprogress.ca/6_charts_show_…
1/2 The finger of blame & shame for lowering the bar for civil political communication reveals @PierrePoilievre cannot limbo under the bar he's laid on the ground. @PierrePoilievre 's baseless attacks on Trudeau's govt claiming they are divisive is hypocritical evidence of ⬇️
2/2 his #fearmongering #ragebaiting #misrepresentationofacts aimed to divide Canadians to gain power over us. Poilievre's un-stateman-like dishonest rhetoric and opportunism point that finger of blame and shame back at him. He's not PM material and we need to call out his lies.
1/2 Specifically, we need to call @PierrePoilievre for claiming he will unite Canadians when he voted in the HoC in favour of encouraging Provinces to use the #notwithstandingclause to "break" our confederation, rather than collaborating to accommodate unique Provincial needs.
2/2 #PierrePoilievre never acknowledges this ➡️ Canada is one of the world's freest countries & largest economies. Calculated per inhabitant, taking purchasing power parity into account, Canada ranks 24th in the list of the world's richest countries. worlddata.info/america/canada…
1/2 @PierrePoilievre seeks to divide us Canadians as evidenced by providing encouragement for #insurrectionists who attempted a coup of our duly elected govt' under the banner of freedom while suppressing the freedom of others. @PierrePoilievre
is a threat to our democracy.
2/3 Trudeau said the convoy headed to Ottawa to protest was a “fringe minority” who hold “unacceptable views,” opposing the way “most Canadians” feel. He nailed the truth and we all know he did.
3/3 PM Trudeau said: "Freedom of expression, assembly and association are cornerstones of democracy, but Nazi symbolism, racist imagery and desecration of war memorials are not." And we all know he is right.
Trudeau said: “Close to 90% of truckers in Canada are vaccinated.” And added Canadians have “been there for each other” & “know following the science and stepping up to protect each other is the best way to continue to ensure our freedoms, our rights, our values as a country.”
I'm not Liberal. What I see is as clear as glass. @JustinTrudeau is a real leader, a statesman, in touch with Canadians and he speaks the truth to & reflected by the majority. @PierrePoilievre lacks leadership skills, is not a statesman and parrots a minority's lies back to them.
@JustinTrudeau @PierrePoilievre I see 2 missing words above. I meant to type @JustinTrudeau is a real leader, a statesman, in touch with Canadians and he speaks the truth to them & it's reflected by the majority.
My responses to @mattjohnstonca's question: What does Pierre Poilievre have in common with Donald Trump? became a thread 🧵
Canada's #GroceryCodeofConduct one step closer to being implemented. The code would be mandatory and see governing rules implemented.

Good news. House of Commons committee votes to expand foreign election interference probe days after a new report of Chinese attempts to meddle in Canada’s federal elections became news. #cdnpoli globalnews.ca/news/9500434/f…

#cdnpoli 🧵@JustinTrudeu
does NOT set #fueloilprices and @PierrePoilievre
knows that. We live in a democracy, not a totalitarian state. The price of oil is set in the global marketplace so the supply/demand balance determines the price of O&G products around the world.
The Canadian government has constitutional authority to regulate gasoline prices only in an emergency. However, provinces and territories can regulate prices, and Quebec and the Atlantic provinces do so.

The majority of Canadians didn't blockade supply chains or occupy the national capital for a month-long party and bitch-in clearly designed from the outset to be an attack on our PM @JustinTrudeau under the guise of a mandate protest that was identical to the US border mandate.
@JustinTrudeau 1/2 “The Government of Canada and the United States have now made being vaccinated a requirement to cross the border. This regulation is not changing so, as an industry, we must adapt and comply with this mandate,” said CTA president Stephen Laskowski.
2/2 “The only way to cross the border, in a commercial truck or any other vehicle, is to get vaccinated.” Canadian Trucking Alliance Statement to Those Engaged in Road/Border Protests cantruck.ca/canadian-truck…

🧵@PierrePoilievre is the classic bad actor fingerpointing when the finger points back to him. His attacks on objective CBC journalists are baseless. Most Canadians get news from American-owned PostMedia outlets that are right-leaning promoters of conservative POV.
CBC’s straight news reporting is consistently low-biased, factual, and covers both sides of issues. Editorial positions lean slightly left and rate high for factual reporting due to proper sourcing and a clean fact-check record. mediabiasfactcheck.com/cbc-news-canad…
Postmedia outlets have right-leaning editorial bias often and publish factual information that utilizes loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes) to favour conservative causes. postmedia.com/brands/#brands…

🧵 "Nearly a year after the start of Canada’s 2022 #FreedomConvoy—a series of protests and blockades that brought together a wide variety of #farrightactivists and #extremists, as well as ordinary Canadians who found common ground with the aggrieved message of the organizers ...
the question of whether and to what degree foreign actors were involved remains largely unanswered. This paper attempts to answer some of those questions by providing a brief but targeted analysis of #Russia’s involvement in the Freedom Convoy via #media and #social media.
The analysis examines Russian involvement in the convoy through the lenses of overt state media coverage, state-affiliated #proxywebsites, and overlap between #Russianpropaganda and #convoycontent on social media.
