On 14th March, in #Kigali, #Rwanda, @MosengoOmba, the General Secretary of @CAF_Online, called me a “mercenaire” (mercenary) because of my journalism, which criticises, FACTUALLY, what is going wrong in CAF. I am going to ask him who the real mercenary in African football is.
For the first time in the history of @CAF_Online, we have a General Secretary that is NOT the LEGAL national of any African country. Yes, he is of #DRC descent. But he has no legal citizenship of any country in #Africa. I will explain…
Under the laws of the Democratic Republic of Congo, dual nationality is strictly forbidden by law. Once you take up the nationality of another country, you CANNOT be a national of DRC. @MosengoOmba is a citizen of #Switzerland, and lost his DRC nationality, as a result.
This is a copy of @MosengoOmba’s Swiss passport. I have blacked out the number and other details, for confidentiality/personal information privacy reasons.
On the 26th of June 2021, three months after being appointed the General Secretary of @CAF_Online, @MosengoOmba@OmbaVeron obtained a DIPLOMATIC passport from the #DRC government.
A diplomatic passport, which a government can give to ANYONE they choose, is different from a regular passport issued to citizens of a country. But here’s another question: the diplomatic passport says he is Congolese. How is that possible, when he is Swiss?
Before anyone comes to talk to me about my dual nationality - #British by birth and #Nigerian by parentage, I hold both nationalities LEGALLY. British law and the Nigerian constitution expressly permit it. Is this the case with @MosengoOmba? 😄
@Christophbongo is a son of a former DRC diplomat and minister. He can tell you a few things about this. He holds South African nationality and had to sign a document forfeiting DRC nationality to become South African. He can testify that what I am saying is accurate.
Franck Kamunga, a DRC lawyer, prepared, in conjunction with the @i_robertschuman and the @EdinburghUni law school, a legal paper explaining the DRC citizenship conundrum. This is his bio.
And here are the relevant excerpts of his legal paper. #Africa, @CAF_Online exco, over to you… If anyone is interested in reading the full paper, get in touch and I will send you a copy.
As the old saying goes, opinions are free. But FACTS are sacred. Nous allons le voir. 🙂
CORRECTION: The #DRC diplomatic passport was issued on 26th MAY, 2021, just over TWO MONTHS after he was appointed as @CAF_Online General Secretary.
And by the way, you can read my deep dive into @CAF_Online, the most detailed piece I have written on CAF in my 30+ year journalism career, in the current Issue 48 of the @blzzrd. Here the link to buy a digital copy - theblizzard.co.uk/shop/issues/is…
PS - There were two people that witnessed what he told me - @EmekaEnyadike, a longstanding colleague and friend, and Alois Hug of @FIFAcom, who were standing beside us, as the exchange happened, at the @serenahotels, just after the @CAF_Online President's awards ceremony.

A history lesson for the people of #Lagos, as taught by Oba Rilwan Akiolu, about how Lagos came to be. Pay attention!
Oba Akiolu: “Modern day Lagos was founded by Prince Ado, the son of the Oba of Benin, Prince Ado was the first Oba of Lagos, the son of the Bini King, Prince Ado, named the town Eko until the Portuguese explorer Ruy de Segueira changed the Maritime town to Lagos.”
Read the FULL statement of Oba Akiolu here ⬇️. No one should argue, ever again, that the Edo people founded Lagos. So when I am told, by SOME so-called Lagosians, to “go back to Edo State”, because I support @PeterObi, my soon-to-be president, y’all know where to go! 🖕🏾😂
An informed fan of @SheffieldUnited says @Dozymmobuosi is about to be named as the new owner of the club. “Announcement imminent”, he says. Hmmmmm.
I have just spoken with a colleague that spent two hours with Dozy at a London hotel last week. He says he is yet to be convinced by the defence that Dozy gave to him.
I also understand that the @EFL is yet to clear Dozy. But that Trevor Birch gave him a comfort statement that he has been using to push the narrative that the EFL has cleared him. I understand that as at last week, they needed him to offer proof of funds...
It’s a big shame that #Rwanda, a smaller and far less resourced country than #Nigeria@Nigeria, the so-called “giant of Africa” 😂😏 has better, more sophisticated security checks at their major airport. I’ll explain…
Before getting to the main #Kigali airport terminal, the major security checks are done. Cars taking passengers to the airport are put through an automatic car scanner, while the driver of the car and passengers go through their own checks, within the same zone.
After the driver and passengers go through the body scanners and metal detectors, they wait for the car to come through the automated 🚗 scanner. If it’s ‘clean’, it rolls through and the driver and passenger(s) get in and drive to the terminal…
A life lesson: About a week and half ago, at @PrinceEbeano supermarket in Lekki, I picked this up during my shop. It cost just over 4k Naija. Instead of putting in my shopping basket, I put it in my pocket & forgot it was there…
I paid for everything else I picked up, except the key holder. When I went back to shop today & bought yet more stuff, I took a replica key-holder to the cashier & told them to use the barcode to charge me for the key-holder I took last time and didn’t pay for. She did just that.
I could have gotten away with not paying for it. But I can’t live with taking something I didn’t pay for. Integrity is what you exercise when no one is looking and when you can do something wrong and get away with it, with no consequences.
This Tuesday, I spoke to a @CAF_Online executive committee member about the precarious financial situation hanging over the confederation, in which they must pay $50m to @Lagardere_SE_fr for breaking their marketing contract. This is what he said. ⬇️
“Osasu, I really want to avoid talking on these issues. But I really appreciate your concern. You have very good points and I personally want to talk to the @CAF_Online administration, about these very serious matters you’ve raised.”
“I will going to the #FIFAWorldCup final and will get there at the weekend, watch it and return home. There are too many things to attend to back in……. (No, I wasn’t going to mention the city. Or country. That would have been a dead giveaway, no? 😄)
There is no #Qatar2022#FIFAWorldCup radio programme coming out of #Africa like the @eagle7fm.com & Eagle 103.7FM Special that I, @osasuo, am anchoring from 1800 GMT on Monday, December 12th. Here’s my stellar panel of coaches, former players, renowned writers & broadcasters…
