So, Anish Chandy @LabyrinthAgency was in town and @jitendradixit & yours truly took him for a #Maharashtrian dinner at Nav Mejwani in Dadar West, #Mumbai. It is opposite Amar Hind Mandal.

We began with Prawn crackers & Aloo wadi

We had chulivarche mutton or mutton cooked on a wood fired stove for the main course with vaala cha birda (a unique dish made of the Vaal bean), stuffed bombil (Bombay duck), & sol kadhi.

For desserts, the gulacha Kharwas & mango kharwas (colostrum flavoured with jaggery and mango, respectively).

The service is prompt, waiters are friendly and speak Marathi and this is VFM. One of the must-visit restaurants for those who love #Marathi food

2 February 1971. The neighbours of Darabshah Sethna (82), a resident of Jehangir Mansion, near Metro Cinema at Dhobi Talao in #Mumbai were intrigued. The main door of his 5th floor was locked, which was unprecedented as the family never went out together.
Sethna was a bachelor. Gaibai Master (72), her husband Nasserwanji (65) and their servant Bawla (55) stayed with Sethna and cared for him. Sethna was a managing clerk at a reputed solicitor's firm in #Mumbai.

For any researcher or author, getting access to old, rare #books & reference material is crucial. There are few book sellers who provide these for a substantial fee. But my experience with at least two of them has been less than average.

One of them is a known bibliophile. He stocks and sells copies of old and rare books. His only problem is that you ask him for one book and he will compel you to buy four more. It is like going to a shop to buy something worth Rs 10 and making purchases worth Rs 100!
A good man, but very disorganised and absolutely unprofessional!

when it comes to #Marathi food l, there is Surves Pure non-veg at F C road, the various restaurants like Nagpur hotel and Shambhavi in Sadashiv Peth, mutton bhakri joints at Khed Shivapur, Milan and Aware Khanaval at Kumthekar Road,
Kothrud and Paud road have restaurants serving niche cuisine from parts of #Maharashtra like North Maharashtra. I could go on and on… perhaps because of high real estate prices and rentals, #Mumbai does not see too many of these budget, affordable places.
