One point that @Janefonda made on @allinwithchris that I think bears repeating is about the problem of workplace harassment in service jobs
Particularly in restaurants, where tipping means that each and every customer holds a kind of monetary power over the server.
A big percentage of women have their first job as waitresses where they encounter men hitting on and harrasing them.
And they are dependent upon these men for tips. So they are being taught and forced to basically smile and take it.
There are also lots of women,obviously,for whom it isn't a first job,but a profession and it means constant harassment as feature of the job
Fonda's point also highlighted to me in this really sharp way how widespread and insidious this all is.
I mean, "flirting with the waitress" is the kind of thing that just about every heterosexual male is taught is ok, and totally harmless fun
But it's not. (Or often not.)
It brought into sharp relief for me how invisible these structures of power can seem when you're a man whose not on the wrong side of them
But what an exhausting burden they would be on the other side <fin>
