I see a lot of criticism for schemes/ programmes which are aimed at candidates that are non-white...

If that is generally your view that it's a bad thing, here's a couple things for you to consider in your own time!
'Why are there no schemes for white people'

The media/ creative industries are a scheme for white people... the world is full of bring ins, unconscious bias and hiring because 'you remind me of myself'
'Shouldn't it just be the best person for the job / the role'

We've tried that but you always seem to fuck it up. You gotta understand that this works all being equal but if the power is with white people then all of the above tweet plays a factor in key decision making
'You must be really pathetic if you can't get a job on merit'

Do you understand how much PoC have to do before they even get a look in at your entry level? Racism exists in 2018 Britain so we ALWAYS need to make sure it's beyond doubt that we're the best for the job!
Jobs and merit part 2...

Schemes are an opportunity to get passed bullshit/ structural issues but do you really think someone is going to be kept in a job if they're shit, can't do the job & think it's a free ride 🤔
I used to feel guilty / that I didn't want to share my story of coming through a programme for PoC

But why should I?
- I care loads more about supporting others into creative industries than you ever do.
- My story is still better than 'I rang x, had a coffee & got a job'
Basically I think schemes aimed at PoC are amazing. People that continue to inspire me every day came through a programme, doing incredible stuff and making sure that creative industries represent the range of voices in 2018 Britain!
Most importantly people aspiring to enter the creative industries will see someone that:
Looks like them
Sounds like & represents their voice They can look up to
They can ask for advice
They can look at and be proud of who they are
