Incentives in the present define reality in the future.
Public benefit and private profit are not aligned.
In academia, metrics are not aligned with getting things done.
Business models are not aligned with the general population well-being.
The skills to properly do a job and the skills checked for in candidates are not aligned.
Simplicity and quality of the solutions and the perception of the expertise are not aligned.
Profit and value are not aligned.

Business and survival + well-being being are not aligned.

Team and team member objectives/incentives are usually not aligned.

Software quality and profitability are not aligned.
In some circumstances, anonymous behaviour incentivices immoral practices, visibility may be an incentive to promote moral practices.
The incentives for trustworthiness are not aligned. Transparency and openness are disincentivized.

Incentives for companies and their customers are not aligned.

Economic incentives are not aligned with epistemic efforts.
Writing code that is bad for the codebase or the organization can be good for you and your job safety, if that makes you irreplaceable.

The incentives for organizations and their programmers are not aligned.

Work harder: be exploited
Work smarter: exploit others

Many (not all) organizations are pathological. Success is found in politics/manipulation/bullshit, not technical/useful/constructive work.

Success = incentives = feedback loop of resource allocation

In pathological organizations, people are not selected or promoted by their merits, but strategically as allies in a greater kakonomic environment, to capture the value created by others (internal or external to the organization). Bullshit fills the gaps.

In pathological organizations bullshitters take the merit/credit, the incentives, promotions, bonuses,… get more resources, grow,…

Hard workers take the blame, unpaid overtime, reprimands, stagnate, burnout,…

Incredible that still anything gets done.

In pathological orgs there's a huge leap in every aspect, becoming a manager.

The org incentivizes selfish individuals that may cause harm to the org, while the ones paying attention to work for common/org good only get more work.
