The Design Of Everyday Things - Don Norman

Here's some tips on design I learnt from the book.

👇Thread
1) Often a designers assumptions of how tasks are performed is very different from how it is actually performed.
It's important to do the appropriate research and design for how it is actually performed
2) Following from the previous point, design must be done from a users perspective.
Users aren't necessarily "logical", and don't have an inside out knowledge of the product like you do.
They make mistakes, and that must be kept in mind
3) Often, when asked to design something, one is given a problem.
*Never solve the problem you are asked to solve*
Often the problem that is found at the surface isn't the root problem.
Search for the root cause first
4) Design thinking is about
-Finding the right problem
-Only then finding the best solution

It needs to have both
5) Anyone using a product should be able to answer
1. What do I want to accomplish
2. What are the actions possible
3. What do I do now
4. How do I do it
5. What happened
6.What does it mean?
7. Did I reach my goal?
6) Great designers aren't the ones who make things look pretty or make things that are cool.
Great designers make great experiences. They make people feel good.
