#NewYearsDay is when I used to resolve to lose weight by eating healthier & going to the gym.

But I'd get overwhelmed with guilt when I skipped a workout or ate dessert & eventually get discouraged.

A few years ago, I started a new ritual & its made a HUGE difference.
(THREAD)
(2) I use #NewYearsDay as a time to take inventory of my body.

I know- that sounds like it could get awfully problematic. But this is NOT a time to catalog every fault. This is about gratitude.

And changing that one tiny thing about your mindset can change how you see yourself
(3) Here's an example. I might start with my feet, which are looking pretty rough right now. I'd notice the mangled toenail that fell off after I injured it trail running this fall.

And while I was scrubbing off dead skin, trimming nails & moisturizing my feet, I'd say thanks.

1/Children & young people with autism and learning disabilities who could be living in the community with specialist support are languishing for years in Assessment & Treatment Units, some of them locked up 24/7 in isolation rooms, bec of severe financial pressure on Local Auths
2/ At the same time, private providers running these ATUs are raking in profits, being paid £452m per yr in what has become a market driven provision where autistic and LD people are little more than commodities
3/ This in spite of the fact that caring for them in the community would be far less expensive not to mention far better for the individuals concerned, their quality of life, their security and safety and their wellbeing

I've doing some serious reflection on friendships as of late, just generally.

So let's talk about that.
Illness has a way of telling you who your real friends are. It's a litmus test, the most basic one.

Some will step up.
Some won't.
Some can't.

It's basic, something we should know in our cells. Genetic memory. The oldest question.
Something older than oil or timber. Something that goes back to the first realization that we aren't alone, that there are other beings around us.

Do we attack them, and protect ourselves? Or attack ourselves and protect them?

XXXtentacion and Empathy vs. Fear:

I don’t celebrate death, but I do find it ironic that now is the time for a lot of the brothers on my timeline to discuss empathy. Now?

There was no time to feel empathy after you dogged out a bunch women?
There was no time to feel empathy after you emotionally, physically and/or mentally abused your partners, who are more than likely sisters? There was no time to feel empathy when you consistently misgender trans women or when you brutalized and dehumanized queer folk?
There was no time to feel empathy when you or your homies sexually assaulted a woman? No, now is not the time to feel empathy, just because you more than likely share many of the same characteristics as XXX.

But Question: Is that empathy or is that fear?
