The dirty secret is that Republicans LOVE deficits because it gives them an excuse to slash spending for the poor and middle class. That's why they cut taxes; arguments about faster growth are just lies to persuade the gullible.
One reason it's a secret is that the mainstream media dutifully reports statements by people like Paul Ryan on the need for fiscal responsibility without saying they are total liars & hypocrites for supporting Medicare Pt D, wars without end, massive tax cuts for the rich etc.
