We just hit the 10 month mark since @vox_dev launched!! We have reached 85K users, with 250K page views from 187 countries! Huge thanks to all our amazing contributors, a phenomenal Board (#RobinBurgess#ChangTaiHsieh#ChrisWoodruff) & a fantastic Managing Editor @NidhiParekh7
To celebrate our 10 month anniversary, here are my favorite 10 @vox_dev columns. Of course, it was almost an impossible task to limit myself to just 10, can’t wait for our 20 month anniversary!! So, please think of these simply as about where my (biased) research interests lie...
First up, and in no particular order whatsoever, #DaveDonaldson & #DavidAtkin from @MITEcon: “High trade costs and mark-ups on transportation within African countries reduce the surplus and market access of remote consumers” goo.gl/oVeKBE
Second, I was just discussing this paper with some friends today! From #LorenzoCasaburi & #JackWillis: “The cost of insurance comes before the benefit. For crop insurance, pay-at-harvest premiums remove this gap, and can increase demand substantially” goo.gl/M9WxUP
Third, an awesome piece from #MartinRotemberg on firms in India: “Small firms that receive subsidies in India grow more quickly than their competitors. But is it a zero-sum game?” goo.gl/w2AUFi
Fourth, a fabulous piece by @DupasPascaline on delivering health subsidies: "Contrary to existing service delivery literature, an audit finds that health workers effectively implement health subsidies in Ghana, Kenya and Uganda" goo.gl/UwtWQA
Fifth, been thinking about this topic alot, the Alibaba effect by #JingtingFan#LixinTang#WeimingZhu#BenZou: “E-commerce disproportionately benefits consumers in small and remote places, helping to reduce disparities in living standards across locations” goo.gl/u5d3uA
Sixth, #TahirAndrabi#JishnuDas & @aikhwaja on education in Pakistan: "Giving parents information on the performance of schools in Pakistan improved test scores and enrollment, and reduced the cost of private school tuition" goo.gl/G7iY6J
Seventh, can democracy help inequality? By @daronacemoglu#SureshNaidu@pascualrpo#JamesRobinson: “While democracy does represent a real shift in political power away from elites, its impact on inequality may be more limited than one might expect” goo.gl/ss332D
Eighth, a totally awesome piece by #PennyGoldberg & @NinaPavcnik on trading up: “Trade leads to improved industry performance and innovation, and a reduction in inefficiencies in developing countries” goo.gl/ARGBzc
Ninth, the effects of pollution on productivity by #TomChang@talgross#JoshusGraffZivin & #MatthewNeidell: "High levels of pollution reduce the productivity even of indoor workers; cutting pollution can improve the health of both the economy & of society" goo.gl/tsp18a
Last, def not least, & very close to my research heart (more on our work on this topic coming soon) by @HjortJ: “Local employment effects of fast internet connections show that ICT might be one of the most effective employment-creating policies in Africa” goo.gl/pA4X3p

Super excited: this week @vox_dev we have a brand new series on the #US-#China#tradewar. This series was one of my favorites to curate - gonna be some cool articles & audio for it. Please tune in: voxdev.org
I guess the timing of this series couldn't be better!!
Tradition @MIT: a brand new #hack in celebration of #AvengersEndgame
The grand dome is turned into the #CaptainAmerica shield!! Cool!
Can I see this from somewhere in Cambridge without being in the air??
Have to say MIT hacks are one reason I love MIT!!
I even own this book:
One of my favorite @MIT hacks, #Nightwork has a beautiful color picture of it!
My amazing assistant (most efficient assistant ever): I won't be in tomorrow
Me: No worries, hope all is well?
My assistant: Taking my dog to his doggie day care entrance exam
Me: An entrance exam for doggie day care??!!
Me 4 hours later: An entrance exam for doggie day care??!!
Update: Melvin passed the entrance exam!! Apparently he did so well (I guess that is the right sign) on the placement exam that he got put in w/ the big dogs. John thinks Melvin is way too small to be in with the big dogs... so not sure he will be using the doggie day care...
Email from my assistant last weekend: He has tenure now, so don’t ask him to do any tricks.
Attached to the email: the picture below of Melvin the dog in my office
Second: the role of skill building and training for adolescent girls in #Uganda & #Libera by @markus_gold
"Gender-sensitive youth employment programmes combining income generation & life skills training can be effective in helping adolescent girls succeed" voxdev.org/topic/labour-m…
Third: the long term effects of #Mexico's Progressa cash transfer program by @susanwparker_mx and #TomVogl
"Conditional transfers in childhood improve education, labour, and economic outcomes in adulthood, especially for women" voxdev.org/topic/public-e…
