Speaking as someone who studies brains for a living, I think you wouldn’t. See what happens is - the brain isn’t there to remember facts. That’s quite secondary. Think of the brain as your press secretary. It’s supposed to weave a coherent story of Who You Are to yourself.
Without really knowing what motivates you (deeper brain centers handle that). If you grow up anti-gay its a survival strategy to fit in and be anti-gay also. If you later fall in with more enlightened folks it makes sense to shed the old skin and change.
Now the press secretary hates the idea of “well I was raised by bigots so I grew up a bigot myself and I stayed that way until my adult crowd changed my mind”. So it softens and distorts just how bad the former bigotry was.
It does such a good job if warping former ideas that they can appear utterly alien to the Self that is now. I remember the case of a journalist that asked a famous writer an embarassing q and in later interviews said the writer had asked it.
This wasn’t, clearly, an attempt to lie (the interview was recorded and anyone could look it up). But the “press secretary” memory could not endure the shame of having blundered so badly that it completely denied it happened and deflected it on the other guy.
And this happens every day to all kinds if ordinary folks. We’re just more fortunate because no one records us.

Knowing this I tend to take a Big Pic approach. What are their views now? Have they apologized for causing Pain? If so, you may pass.
