Welcome to the Pacific.
Solo museum dates >
I'm doing a research paper on these two sculptures by Gellini & van Clève, located at the Legion of Honor Museum in San Francisco.
Back & side details.
Anyways, I was walking through the museum & it was absolutely horrifying. No matter how much I love exploring art, the culture of revering art into the millions of dollars doesn't move me, & majority of the works are hideous.

Until I saw this exhibit by Julian Schnabel.
They're mammoth sized pictures that make absolutely no sense &, yet, I immediately loved them.
Rembrandt & Rubens.
And Auguste Rodin's The Three Shades.

Although, I was a bit more interested in the museum's vaulted ceiling above them lmao
But the most interesting part of the museum for me with the most beautiful painting in the entire building... was in the coat check room. And absolutely nobody knew who the painting was by or what it was even called.
It was this tiny little closet with an attendant to take any backpacks or lend stools. I noticed an essay next to her with highlighted & marked sections, so I asked if she teaches or studies. She's doing her masters in museum studies.
She's Latinx & her thesis is on how museums have to communicate to return Native American artifacts, especially those that are sacred & religious, back to the First Nation's People, because their political representation is incredibly marginalized & abused.
I spent more time in that coat check closet looking at the painting & talking to the attendant than at any exhibit.

I like art, & I love artists, but more than both, I'm captivated by the stories behind artist's & their art, & what they did in their lives.
And far too many of the most brilliant & best of them that are good for humanity go unrecognized & pushed to dark corners, like the artist who painted those flowers & the woman writing her thesis.

Art matters because of them.
I want to go back & talk to her more about her thesis work & I need to find out who made the painting.
I always wanted to see The Thinker & never knew it was just an hour away from me. It was an unremarkable, but satisfying experience. I stared at it for like 30 seconds & then went inside lmao
