(1) America has the best Constitution in the world. If you ever feel frustrated by how long it takes to get things done, study how easily the constitution can be changed in NZ. Within 10 years, socialists changed our voting system forever. Hard to elect conservatives now.
(2) In 1984, a Labour govt was elected in NZ, with Deputy PM, Geoffrey Palmer, a Professor of Constitutional law. He later became PM for a short time before they were voted out in 1990. During his term of office he pushed for a referendum on the voting system.
(3) When the (barely) right of center National party won in 1990, they kept most of the economic, social and defense reforms Labour had won. This included the idea of an electoral referendum, which was held in 1993. The first election under the new system was held in 1996.
(4) NZ went from "first past the post" FPP to "mixed member proportional" MMP in 1996. Previously, our one legislative house (no senate) of ~95 members was made up of electorate MPs, with the majority party being the govt. We were brainwashed to think this was a problem.
(5) The new MMP system of 60 electorate seats and 60 popular national vote seats was sold to us as better reflecting the diversity of the community, and promoting more co-operative govt by coalition.

All it does is distort voter's wishes into strange results, like 2017's.
(6) The "proportional" part of MMP was copied from Germany. I now see why that's a problem. Germany is a very collectivist, socialist culture & an international hub for national socialism aka communism.

Proportional representation makes it hard for conservatives to get elected.
(7) In 2017, 46% of NZ voters wanted the center right party to be re-elected. 35% wanted the far left party, 5% the even farther left party, and 7% wanted the "kingmaker" or "cross benches" party to try and keep whoever won "honest" as much as one can. I voted for that one.
(8) Unfortunately, the kingmaker NZ First party chose Labour and the Greens, rejecting the National party, which won 46% of the vote. NZ First claimed a majority of its voters wanted a change from National, but I dispute that. I & others wanted NZ First to hold to its values.
(9) So, at least 50% of those who voted are rather unhappy that we have another Labour-led govt, and this one is much further left than others before. In order to win next time, there has to be a sizeable small party that can be a coalition partner for National. It's a big ask.
(10) In summary, I regret voting for the MMP electoral system in 1993 (and again in 2011). It made such a massive constitutional change that I don't know if we can ever undo it.

Outside the US, constitutional change is very easy. Too easy.
(11) Be glad you have the slowest form of government in the world, my American friends. It means that a good idea will eventually come to pass if it is worthy. While a lot of bad ideas will never make it.
(12) In terms of bad ideas, tampering with or repealing 2A is the very worst idea in human history.

It has never been likely, especially now. Praise be to God that gun controllers will never, ever, win enough Congressional AND state support to repeal 2A. Not even with illegals.
(13) Eternal vigilance is of course necessary and a worthwhile use of time and resources. I wrote this thread to persuade as many of you as I can that you have nothing to fear from the Left, thanks to the utter genius of the Founding Fathers.
(14) Some of you appear bogged down by the political events of the day, involving the DOJ, FBI and other institutions.

You have the greatest system of government ever devised.

And those currently in charge are worthy custodians of it.
(15) I and my beautiful little country are victims of international socialism. This is far worse than the machinations of different conservative politicians and officials for a year or two while the repair job is done in the USA.
(16) Now do you start to understand why I love America so much, and why I try to ignore NZ politics as much as I can? I prefer to be positive and optimistic about what Americans CAN do, instead of what New Zealanders can't.
(17) One day when my circumstances allow I hope to become an American By Choice, and that will be an amazing day, the culmination of my life's work.

Please show gratitude for the immense blessing of being born in the USA.
(18) By taking control of your thoughts, instead of being at the mercy of your emotions, you can improve your life, your family's life and an infinite number of other lives by promoting Americanism at home and abroad. It's your birthright and your opportunity.
(19) Once you are back in charge of your choices, you can then help get the best general election candidates elected in the primaries, which start TOMORROW, May 8, 2018.

This is a better use of your time than chasing rabbits.
(20) Republicans have earned the Presidency (& therefore originalist judicial appointments at every level), Senate, House, and a majority of Governorships. Please don't throw away your advantage this year.

You're our shining city on a hill, remember that.
