1/ "good day everyone, let get this over with as quickly as possible"
"it is a pleasure for the MOH to avail us his presence. I know he is a very busy man and we will try not to eat too much into his time" justice informed.
2/ "I hope you are not expecting us to go easy on you MOH" he teased
"I wouldn't expect such, you people are the finest in your career, you were carefully selected for this task" MOH said smiling.

3/ "let get down to it, kindly state your name for the record" justice beckoned
"my names are Oluwafemi Chukwuka Abubakar, the current minister for health for the federation, a Professor of family medicine with over 80 research publication in various journal, both local and
4/ International " MOH said, adjusting his tie with each sentence.
" Mr. Minister, if I may call you femi" Mrs Oluwakemi said
"by all means you can" Femi said
"good then, I'm an entrepreneur and I do not know how to waste time on pleasantries"
5/ "so I will save you all those from my side and cut to the chase. In your own words, why do you think we lost the 7 years old boy" kemi asked
6/ Femi smiled "you madam just asked the most important question. The boy died because of Nigeria, or better put, the nation killed him"
#medicstoriesby@drseuno
7/ "sorry, minister you have lost me, how did we kill the boy" justice interjected.
"let me see, if I'm correct you have probably seen a mother who self medicated, self medicated because of her fear of the hospital. Am I correct" Femi asked
8/ "Yes" they all chorused
"the fear of the hospital was induced by the numerous amount of death, bad public perception from the hospital. This high level of death is likely due to poor understaffing or total lack of staff to handle the high influx of patient"
9/ "some of these patient don't even need to be in a tertiary centre, lack of equipments for the health workers and the little available is overwhelmed by people coming in for health services"
Oh there is also the chaos amongst health worker, lack of teamwork"
10/ "unable to work in harmony, realising that they all have equal stake in the good outcome of every patient, and that each one is a master in his own area. The nurses are better at caring, the doctor are masters of clinical decisions"
11/ "that the diversity needs to be pulled together to make a great team. I'm certain you have also seen the absence of pure administrative support, no one overseeing this professional, ensuring they stay at the top of their game, getting them to take mandatory course.. "
12/ "course that will make them better health care providers. It will also not shock me that you have realised that there is not enough funds to fully support the kind of Healthcare the citizens want" Femi spoke for a while.
#medicstoriesby@drseuno
13/ "talking about funds, knowing you were coming, I did a little bit of research, it is been suggested that every country should invest 15% of it budget in health. How much is Nigeria investing" Mrs Oluwakemi asked
14/ "currently we are investing 4%, I know it is a far cry, but we are getting there. We are upgrading our hospital with those money" Femi explained
"the sad part is most of this money goes into recurrent expenditure, staff salaries and all that"
15/ "leaving little for capital investment. In most Western countries, investor invest in the health sector but the economy doesn't make that a viable option in Nigeria" Femi concluded
#medicstoriesby@drseuno
16/ "but health professionals have be clamoring that the little available should be devoted to the PHC system, to make the PHC act as a filtering mechanism for the main hospital, also act as a drive towards preventive healthcare" Aljiha spoke for the first time
17/ "but there is no drive towards that, what say you" Aljiha asked.
Femi smiled and answered " the level of corrupt practices in the PHC is devilish, when the PHC system was functional in the early 80s and 90s in Nigeria, people were stealing drugs, making away with equipment"
18/ "No proper accountability, no method of tracing and tracking them. And when someone is finally arrested and charged to court, justice you people sell out, they paddle your hands with money and you let the case go" justice was taking aback by the attack
19/ "don't be surprise justice, you are part of the problem, corrupt cases been sold off, everyone is now corrupt and it is now like a hydra, spreading its tentacles into everything, everyone, including the health sector"
#medicstoriesby@drseuno
20/ "how do you respond to the understaffing that Healthcare workers face" justice asked hurriedly to divert the attention away from him
"there is nothing that can be done about that, for instance in Nigeria if everyone who has been a doctor and registered with MDCN is alive"
21/ "and practicing, we still won't have enough doctors, we currently stand at about 90k doctors to 190million citizens. Compare that to the UK which if the same criteria is laid down will currently stand at about 850k to a population of 66.5 million"
22/ "Then with such shortage shouldn't we be keeping our health workers, a lot of them are leaving the country" Prof said for the first time.
"Yes Prof, we should but I can't prevent anyone from seeking happiness"
#medicstoriesby@drseuno
23/ "you are also part of the problem, you talk down your juniors, useless them in front of patients. It is not only money that provide job satisfaction, there is respect, appreciation from citizens, from people in power" Femi stated
24/ "Then you are part of the problem, Mr minister" Dr Dalong said
"Yes, I'm. We all are. The entire 190million people played a part in the death of the child, if you want to look at it from a wholistic view" Femi countered.
25/ "so what is the solution, because honestly I'm getting tired and fed up" justice asked.
#medicstoriesby@drseuno
26/ "the solution is a collective responsibility. The patient should stop self medicating, they should get themselves a health insurance, so they have no fear of going to the hospital. They should stop taking space in the tertiary centres if they are not Complicated"
27/ "they should strive for prevention rather than seeking therapeutic. Treatment is expensive, prevention is cheap"
"the administrator should realise their duty goes beyond disbursement of funds, they should seek out mandatory training to improve their workforce"
28/ "an educated workforce is a better workforce. The Healthcare worker should show dedication, especially consultants, there is no essence keeping a patient that doesn't warrant being in a tertiary centre, send them back to their primary doctor"
29/ "if they insist on consultant level of care, then they should cough out the money for it. At the level of government, we can only continue to strive to perfect the system. We definitely have to bring back the PHC. We need to make it the face of the health system"
30/ "just like UK invest so much in GP practice, we must invest in our PHC. It is cheaper to invest in it and it is saddening that we, Prof Olukoye Ransome Kuti epitomised this approach, yet we threw it away and went for a hospital based system, which is very expensive.."
31/ "expensive to run.... We can't just be wasting money, money that is not available."
"for those outside the health system, like justice and his fellow judges, you must strike fear into the heart of corruption, jail people who are corrupt. Stop selling justice."
32/ "everything is linked in a country, there is nothing that is done at one end that doesn't affect the other end" Femi concluded
33/ "we must also choose good leader, creative leaders, people who know what they are doing" justice countered back, sneering at the minister
#medicstoriesby@drseuno
34/ "we don't need people that will tell us where we want to be, every citizen know where we want the nation to be. We need people that can shows us, how they will get us to where we want to be... That should be the focus in this coming election" Mrs Oluwakemi added
35/ "Mr. Minister, thank you for your short time with us. We will discuss and submit our recommendations to you. Thank you for the honor to serve and also learn" justice said.
36/ "the pleasure is mine, thank you for taking up the mantle to investigate and investigate extensively" Femi said and took his leave.
37/ The END.....
#medicstoriesby@drseuno
38/ Wow.... Mehn... To write story is not easy ooo.
If you have been following from the very first episode..... What recommendations can be proposed... Our health system has collapsed. It is a symptom of a bigger issue... The main issue is the our country. We have to do better
39/ And it start with choosing the right people to lead US, followed by an attitude change as a nation.... I don't support any party, but I ask that we think, and think right. Vote your conscience. Vote RIGHT.
