In November, we saw nearly 500 EMS opioid-related calls in Edmonton alone. A post on the #ethics of #opioidpoisoning and #harmreduction from Dr. Cheryl Mack This week the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta will be hearing a critical case dealing with supervised consumption sites. The case is about regulations that this provincial government has enacted that create barriers to receiving services in safer, supervised environments.

In my job as an Infectious Disease and HIV doctor I have been involved in the development of Harm Reduction programs in Edmonton since the early 1990’s Back in the 90s when HIV was still a pretty new problem and effective treatment was very new, the Alberta government took the enlightened decision to provide HIV treatment to all Albertans who needed it.
