Realistically, we always knew Canada was the fourth best team in this group. No surprise that's where they finished. At the same time, they wanted to show they could compete. They wanted to inspire the country.

And they've certainly done that.

Clearly, there's still a long way to go. Hopefully the team can learn from this, and build off this, like they did after losing to Haiti at the 2019 Gold Cup.

There's going to be a lot of finger-pointing, but the reality is that everyone needs to be better - players, coaches, the federation - if they truly want to get to the next level and take advantage of the opportunity ahead of them.

Just a few thoughts on a second look at 🇭🇷4-1🇨🇦

Thread:

- In the early stages, Canada did well to exploit the flanks, and Croatia hadn't shut down those pathways.

- Larin created and exploited space in transition, leading to a pass for Buchanan's cross for Davies' goal.
What I like about the goal is Larin's recognition that the midfield pocket was available and how he could adjust last second before seeking a pass to Buchanan.

Also made sure he could run into the box, drawing a man away from Davies, who scored.

Started well, for sure.
There were early warning signs for later in the match, though.

In the 6th minute, Hutchinson doesn't cover a space, and Buchanan is caught flat-footed and level with Hutchinson.

Croatia exploits the space and creates a chance, which was one of the many repeated things.

Good morning Canada! Lots to come today.

I made it my goal the past few weeks to tell as many stories about *who* Canada's national team is ahead of their return to the World Cup. I hope readers have learned something from them. Here's a few I've enjoyed: 1/? #CanMNT
The Untold Stories of Milan Borjan, Canada's wild goalkeeper, is something I've wanted to write for nearly a year: theathletic.com/3796051/2022/1…
Ismael Kone is just 20 years old, and could be Canada's wild card. This is the inside story of his journey from the Ivory Coast to Qatar: #CanMNT

Coming tweet stream/storm: Today's craziness brings to a head what we've been seeing in Canadian Soccer for years. We should have seen it coming. #CanMNT #CanadaSoccer
In Canada, soccer is going in two vastly different directions at the same time. The #CanMNT qualifies for Qatar. The #CanWNT wins gold. But, even before COVID, player numbers were down in Canada. And, there has been a stunning lack of success for the pro game in this country.
So, as the national teams succeed, domestic support for the game isn't there. #CanPL has failed, terribly, to move the needle. There's less interest in MLS than there was even five years ago.

⚽️It's Canada vs. Jamaica game day! Are you ready?⚽️

Here's what you need to know:
- If #CanMNT wins or ties, Canada qualifies for the World Cup 2022
- Start time is 4 p.m. ET at BMO Field in Toronto
- Current temperature is a blustery -5°C ❄️
Canada leads the final round of qualifying with 25 points, and needs just one more point to secure qualification. It will also book its ticket to Qatar if fourth-place Costa Rica (19 points) fails to win Sunday at El Salvador.

The Canadians, who have a three-point cushion over the U.S. and Mexico (both 22 points), finish out the round Wednesday with a match against fifth-place Panama (18 points).

I’ll start with the most recent accessibility story I faced in #yeg while attending #CANMNT first off my goal is to bring AWARENESS & EDUCATION to build bridges & make this city better, stronger & to open up conversations not to tear anyone down! First.. (THREAD)
I will acknowledge the incredible snow storm we had just 24hrs before no one could be prepared for 10+ CM of snow in that time but again welcome to Alberta! I parked a block away at a friends & wheeled.. the walks/streets were not cleared AT ALL it was hard enough for ABLE BODY..

Armchair Analyst: Lots of folks are rightly going *in* on the #USMNT, Berhalter & the USSF as a whole.

On a more granular level I'm taking a look at what went wrong with this team last night – and what will keep going wrong until/unless it gets fixed
mlssoccer.com/post/2019/10/1…
The number of times the US were out-manned 4-v-2 in central midfield last night was mind-boggling. It is the root of everything that's going wrong for the US right now, and – no matter who the coach is – it has to change.
The truly awful thing is that this wasn't even one of the 5 worst losses of the decade:
5. USA 1-2 JAM (2015 Gold Cup)
4. JAM 2-1 USA (2014 WCQ)
3. GUA 2-0 USA (2018 WCQ)
2. CRC 4-0 USA (2018 WCQ)
1. T&T 2-1 USA (2018 WCQ)
