En un pasado aún más remoto todas las tierras emergidas estaban agrupadas en un megacontinente: #Pangea. Poco a poco comenzó a quebrarse y se abrieron brazos de mar que se fueron ensanchando a medida que los continentes se alejaban entre sí.
Mirada con nuestros ojos👀, la separación de los continentes fue muy lenta, sólo unos pocos centímetros por año. El Océano Atlántico demoró 100 millones de años en abrirse. ¡Hoy nuestras costas están separadas de #África aproximadamente 5000 kilómetros! 📏

#NovaScotia’s coal deposits starting forming 300 million years ago when #NS had a tropical climate – tectonic plate movement had us in the middle of supercontinent #Pangea, down around the equator.

This is #AtlanticCanada 10,000 years ago. #PEI was still connected to the mainland - no #ConfederationBridge needed! Sea levels are lower during ice ages because so much water is frozen. It wasn't until 5000 years ago that rising sea levels made PEI an island.

#Newfoundland's #BellIsland had iron mines from 1895-1966. The #NovaScotia Steel and Coal Co. helped open the first one. The iron was made into steel in #Sydney, #CapeBreton. Steel is iron and carbon (which is derived from coal) so #CB coal and #NL iron were a good match!
