#Canada #Lebanon and #Norway's #whistleblower laws only met 1/20 best practices criteria making them the worst paper rights.

The EU Whistleblower Protection Directive, #Australia, and the #UnitedStates have the strongest #whistleblower laws, meeting 16/20 best practices criteria.

#Serbia's whistleblower law is tied with #Ireland for the second-best whistleblower law. Whistleblowers in Serbia won 80% of their retaliation cases but the lack of access to court records likely skewed the data.

The US and 19 other nations do not protect whistleblowers from criminal and civil liability #SLAPP suits.

14 Nations have second-class rights for #lawenforcement and #intelligencecommunity whistleblowers in comparison with other public employees.

The majority of #whistleblowers lose retaliation complaints. With 37 countries combined the overall success rate was 21%

#Whistleblowers who win receive small financial rewards which does not compensate for the lengthy procedures and high costs of resolving these cases

59% of countries we studied had no reported decisions in #whistleblower retaliation cases. 89% had fewer than 15. #Japan's WPA had 30 case decisions since 2006, and #SouthAfrica's PDA had 33 since 2001.

In the @UnitedKingdom #whistleblowers only won 13.8% of retaliation cases in 2018. In the #UnitedStates they only won 10%.

Our research on #gender found that out of a total of 487 #whistleblower cases, the majority (67%) concerned male whistleblowers, while females accounted for 30%. 2% were unknown. Success rates were similar. Males won 17% of cases and females won 19%.

100% of #whistleblowers in #Romania won their retaliation cases, but we only found 6 final decisions to analyze.
