Govt seems to be paying price for never adjusting to post-election Parliamentary #brexit reality.
PM's aim was to force her preferred outcome (whatever it is) through - rather than test where the votes are
its only on that basis that giving Parliament a "meaningful vote" changes the outcome.. it assumes that her deal was only deliverable with a "meaningless" vote.
PM could have tried to create a cross-party consensus on way forward the day after she lost her majority - rather than look to DUP to shore up minority...
a lowest common denominator outcome, rammed through a scared Parliament is not a good basis for a stable long-term relationship with the EU...

my suggestion to help the PM - EU agrees to set up a working group of technical experts as soon as WA passed to investigate and make recommendations on "technological and facilitative arrangements"
can include any experts nominated by the UK (so all the ERG's favourite experts) and reps from HMRC and Defra and Irish authorities + EU experts.
set a deadline to report by October 2019 so can be fed into the discussions on the long-run future relationship... and have it chaired by a neutral. Both sides agree to consider conclusions carefully as part of "best endeavours"

Interesting bits from the Prime Minister’s #Brexit letter …bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politi…. The absolute primacy of ending free movement as the driver of the Referendum result- perhaps the one Leave argument she personally buys..
But ending FOM for EU citizens also removes it from UK citizens. PM does not mention that.
Second the stress on the benefits of ending vast annual payments.. But she knows that direct savings will not be huge as we take over programmes (CAP, replacement structural funds), incur costs of setting up own agencies

Sat in High Court. The grounds of @UKEUchallenge are going to ensure some revealing facts emerge about this #brexit.

The notification of withdrawal act 2017 merely gave the PM permission to notify a decision which hasn’t been made according to our constitutional requirements.
The PM’s decision which @A50challenge ensured was located is illegitimate.

How can one person make a decision which impacts on every EU citizen ?

Court cannot quash result of the ref bc it was not legally binding. Claimants seek declaration result is invalid bc of breach of spending &fraud. Gov are treating something which was advisory as binding. Ct plays essential role in looking at process which led to this result.

To clarify, I am remain, but I feel a 2nd ref is monumentally risky & perhaps dangerous:-

1. Polls haven't changed much, result could easily be the same
2. Another campaign of hate will embolden the far right
3. If remain win. Leavers will demand another vote
4. Chaos & unrest are likely whatever the result, possibly violence too

What happens if it's still 'Leave'? Picture the chaos, square one. You're simply allowing the Tories more time to fail to come up with a solution. Every day that continues people in this country will suffer
What if it's 'Remain'? Leavers will, with some justification, query why this vote is more valid than the first. This has the potential to cause a constitutional crisis.

People can say 'we know the facts now' all they like, that will not placate millions of angry voters.
