DUC IS OFF THE PLANE. 

He will not be deported today. He is still in detention but he is SAFE.

WE DID IT. WE WON TODAY. This is my happy tears face when i got the news.

It's complicated, let me make a thread -

1/ ok so HOW? Well we had 3 strategies all at once:

a) political - get Immigration Minister to respond to Duc's MP

b) legal - get an application for Judicial Review in there - this stops removal

c) cause a public uproar

2/ the legal route worked - the application went in; the Home Office cannot deport you while a Judicial Review is in progress. This takes ~3 months. So Duc is still in detention, still in England, and the next step is to get him bail and get him back to Glasgow

3/ all your work emailing + calling + causing a stooshie REALLY WORKED. This will be fantastic for Duc's asylum claim (not being deported/bail are not the same as getting asylum status) because it can be used as evidence for his integration in the community

4/ more people are lined up to be deported every day - because of your action, i really hope @qatarairways & @heathrowairport will think carefully about their reputational cost to being part of this barbaric process

5/ ALSO you made sure Duc know that he was not alone, that he was a treasured of our community. And you made me proud of Glasgow. What's next? Well...

6/ Next is to get Duc out on bail - he may not get legal aid for english solicitors to work in Scotland. SO if you have spare £:   bit.ly/2JSQE8f transfer + write DUC in ref. If he doesn't need it your donation will go to the other amazing work of the Unity Centre

7/ If you want to send Duc a personal message of support & solidarity, please email [e-mail] and we will collate these and make sure he gets them. There's a long fight ahead still.

9/ Meanwhile the fucking Home Office need to sort out their barbaric policy - they recognised Duc as a victim of trafficking but were inches away from sending him to his death. Email your MP - tell them victims of trafficking and modern slavery need justice

[Edit] shit i also meant to ask- Unity needs a Vietnamese interpreter for other case- can anyone help?
Also THANK YOU- i worked hard but so did Unity volunteers - totally incredible people I've only met by phone - & on the ground, Duc's Church & @LambhillStables have been A+++
