NEW: The federal judiciary now expects to have enough money from other sources to keep the courts largely business-as-usual during the shutdown through Jan. 18 (previously it was Jan. 11) — this is the latest from the Administrative Office of the US Courts (HT @hsu_spencer)
In order to make the funds that the judiciary does have (absent a congressional appropriation) last as long as possible, "courts have been asked to delay or defer non-mission critical expenses, such as new hires, non-case related travel, and certain contracts"
DOJ, of course, is already affected by the shutdown, so most judges have been approving requests or issuing blanket orders to delay civil litigation involving the federal govt during the shutodwn (criminal cases still have to proceed as usual)

Some fireworks in court this morning as a judge criticized the lawyer representing Concord Management & Consulting in the special counsel Russian troll farm case for his language and harsh words about Mueller's office in filings — "unprofessional, inappropriate, and ineffective"
The judge told attorney Eric Dubelier that his strategy was "ineffective" and that his approach to filings — including pop culture quotes (see: assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5676…) and accusing Mueller's office basically of lawlessness — was "undermining your credibility in this courthouse"
"Knock it off," Judge Dabney Friedrich told Dubelier. This then led to a heated exchange where Dubelier said he needed to consult his client since the judge had accused of unprofessional conduct, and now there might be bias from the judge. There's no bias, the judge replied.

Last week, Democratic attorneys general in 17 states + D.C filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, arguing that its practice of separating families violated the due process and equal protection clauses of the Fifth Amendment.
A new motion filed Monday came with more than 900 pages of declarations that included powerful personal testimonies from parents, children and other family members who were directly impacted by the Trump policy.

On this Father’s Day, I want to tell you about the stories Francisco tells his daughter... Francisco Jose looks at a photo of his children on his phone. At the time this photo was taken, he was planning to send his two children to the United States in the next 12 months, and was trying to prepare them for the journey.
When we met, Francisco was getting his daughter ready to leave for the United States. She was 12 years old. That’s about the age that girls begin to be taken as property by the violent gangs that control El Salvador. That’s why he was sending her away.

If you don’t think a little girl who is fleeing the prospect of sexual slavery is deserving of asylum, then I do not know what to say to you. If you wouldn’t do everything you can to save your daughter from that plight, it's pointless for you to listen to the rest of this story.
