1/ Quick border story from 2001, I was in the Border Patrol for a year. Stationed next to the Otay Mesa Port of Entry. An adult female presents herself for admission to the Port; accompanied by a 2-year old she says is hers. Upon questioning, she flees, leaves the kid there..
2/ Call goes out to the Border Patrol (including me) with her description. Well, my partner and I find her chatting up some friend by the McDonalds waiting for a cab. When questioned, she denied knowing the kid and then tried to say it was her cousin's kid.
3/ She was turned over to the smuggling group for prosecution (8 USC 1324). BOTTOM LINE: The smuggling of kids has been going on for decades. It needs to be stopped. The adults need to be vetted. Smugglers need to be prosecuted. Kids returned to their actual parents.
