An utter lie. Mountbatten made no such offer at Patel's behest. The meeting in question that took place on 1st nov 1947 was attended by Liaqat ali khan, lord Ismay (chief of staff to mountbatten) & lord Mountbatten.

in the following thread I will try to put forward facts regarding what happened in the meeting..as noted down by lord mountabtten.

the wordings of the draft angered jinnah and he retorted he wudnt accept any formula which included Hyderabad...coz it wud mean giving india two dominions at the cost of one. If only Junagadh and Kashmir were discussed india wud hv lost Kashmir by agreeing to terms
including Hyderabad into the equation made sure jinnah rejected the offer.
