More Scott Pruitt scandals happening under the radar.

One of Pruitt's first actions at EPA was ending a requirement for oil and gas companies to report emissions of methane, a major contributor to climate change.

Here's why we are pressing Pruitt on that now-- 1/
Methane is one of the worst greenhouse gases on a "molecule-for-molecule basis," writes @NASA.

The gas is most commonly associated with agricultural activities like raising livestock, but methane is also a byproduct of oil and gas development. 2/ climate.nasa.gov/causes/
Shortly after his arrival at the EPA, Scott Pruitt signed off on an order halting an Obama-era requirement that oil and gas companies report their emissions of methane to the EPA.

In effect, Pruitt agreed to let polluters police themselves. 3/ scientificamerican.com/article/epa-dr…
As these handwritten notes just published by the New York Times' @EricLiptonNYT show, Pruitt was very friendly with the executives of petroleum companies and trade groups.

Limiting methane emissions, though good for the public, hurt their bottom lines. 4/
Soon after Pruitt let oil and gas companies police themselves, Republican Senators joined Democrats to reject attempts to weaken curbs on methane emissions.

A reminder that climate action - and specifically limits on methane - have bipartisan support. 5/ sciencemag.org/news/2017/05/s…
Then the journal Science published a study revealing that the oil and gas industry is leaking 60% more methane than the EPA had previously estimated.

Pruitt let polluters off the hook, and they ran amok spewing gases which are dangerous to humans. 6/ nytimes.com/2018/06/21/cli…
Now that whole time, as we know thanks to documents released via FOIA and lawsuits, many of the leaders in this same industry where regularly communicating with Pruitt and his top aides, trying to shape policies in areas like... methane emissions. 7/ washingtonpost.com/national/healt…
This is what's so important about Scott Pruitt.

It isn't just corruption and ethical scandals (although we got yet more developments in that area too over the weekend, see below).

His policies represent a significant danger to Americans' health. 8/ nytimes.com/2018/06/30/cli…
Scott Pruitt's embrace of polluters and corporate welfare will cost all of us. He is selling us all out, and this GOP-led Congress is sitting on its hands.

We should all be fighting for Americans' public health. Some of us are. 9/9 motherjones.com/politics/2018/…
