This week in 2008, the US bombed a wedding party in Afghanistan, killing 47 civilians, including the bride. The jet returned 3 times to bomb the group. 39 of the victims were women & children. The US denied involvement, but an Afghan investigation found the US responsible.
The bridal party was traveling to the grooms village in eastern province of Nangarhar, Afghanistan on July 6, 2008 when a US war plane flew low over the group. The first strike hit a large group of children ahead of the main group, killing them instantly.
A few minutes later, the plane returned and bombed the main group, killing almost all women. The bride and two small girls, survived and scrambled down a hill, but the jet returned to bomb them as well.
A witness described the scene:

"I was holding my grandson's hand, then there was a loud noise and everything went white. When I opened my eyes, everybody was screaming. I was lying meters from where I'd been, I was still holding my grandson's hand but the rest of him was gone."
The witness was escorting the bride's party that day. “I looked around and saw pieces of bodies everywhere. I couldn't make out which part was which." Relatives said the bodies were so destroyed that it was impossible to identify them.
As a result, they were forced to bury 47 victims in 28 graves. In addition to the dead, 9 more civilians were wounded in the bombings. voanews.com/a/a-13-2008-07…
