With apologies to the maestro, the lesson I take away is to make sure that the person I’m speaking to is not Lin-Manuel Miranda before opining on anything.
Eg: Person: What do you think of okra in gumbo?
Me: Are you Lin-Manuel Miranda? Person: No.
Me: Well, then. I enjoy it if not over-cooked.

I am obsessed with the ever-shifting conspiracy theory being created in real time to discredit the Mueller investigation, by Nunes, Meadows, K Strassel, Mollie Hemingway, et al.

1) What's the theory called? (eg, "QAnon.")
2) Who's got a good rundown of the state of play?
Like all conspiracy theories, it:
A) Seeks evidence to prove an unshakeable point of faith (in this case, NO COLLUSION!)
B) Ignores/dismisses all contrary evidence
C) Makes ample use of "poisoned trees." If one element can be discredited, then the whole thing is invalid.
D) If any contrary witness makes a minor mistake of fact or ethics, then anything from that person is discredited.
E) Anybody attacking the conspiracy theory is part of the conspiracy (Cabal of FBI/CIA/Dems/Liberal Media!)
F) Memory-holes any prior claims if discredited

More about GHWB. I've argued for a while that not only does satire have no effect on the actions of the powerful, it shouldn't. You don't want a President caring about what somebody like me might say about her when making important decisions.
Thanks to a great talk by @jeffreyaengel, I learned about a real life situation which proved my point. To grossly oversimplify, as the Berlin Wall fell, the nations of Europe were on the edge of violent chaos. If anybody overstepped or provoked, war could break out.
So Pres. Bush got on the phone to leaders, East and West, and said: Do nothing. Don't provoke. Don't react. We promise not to interfere. And then got up in front of the press and basically said that. "We're being careful. Gonna monitor. Keep a close watch," etc. In other words:

I have some sympathy for USAToday's editors. He's the President! Of the United States! How do you say to the President, I'm sorry, unlike every other President since we were founded, we're not letting you print your Op-Ed in our paper, because you're a liar and these are lies?
This is part of the larger problem afflicting journalism writ large -- Trump takes advantage of ethical norms -- good ones! Ones that were very useful in The Before Times! -- that he in no way honors himself, and it's still hard to adjust to it.
A number of people have responded: yes, they should have said just that. Or taken other steps to highlight that the President is lying. Perhaps they should have — but if they had, it would have been the first time that’s ever been done. It would shatter a norm. And that’s hard.

I did something similar to this 5 years ago, in anticipation of EC & @theroots' Wise Up Ghost LP, on tumblr.

(You can still find all those posts if you look, although a lot of the YouTube links etc are now dead ends. It was 40 Days Of EC then, so for 2018 I'm upping it to 45.)
Mostly I will be going chronologically from the early years right up to the present, but it feels right to start out with Costello's 2002 song, "45."

Since I'm submitting my talk and in honor of the 50+ games I've worked on across pretty much every modern platform you can think of:

1 like = 1 piece of advice for releasing your game that I learned (feel free to share for more answers).

I'll also take specific Q's
1. For consoles, don't underestimate the tools that platforms provide & PLEASE spend time familiarizing with how they function, it will save you so much time in the long run. The dev forums are your friend (and a lot of times I get asked on each game how to do xyz on a kit)
2. Do your QA early, yes, srsly, I know you might be 'still designing' or in the process of doing other things but you benefit from testing and processes still. I've worked on games from prototype phase all the way to post-release (you just look at diff things at each milestone)

Speaking for *only* myself, this is what I would have wanted in this scenario from ANY of the observing white people in the café, grocery store, restaurant. (In all of these scenarios, I was the *only* patron of color, exacerbating the erasure.)

The story begins with the Narrator warning all maidens to stay out of Carterhaugh or Chaster’s Wood or as I like to call it, De-flower Garden, because a fella named Tam-Lin lives there, and he charges one (1) green kirtle or one (1) sextimes as price of admission.
Fair Janet (whose family owns those woods) catches wind of this and comes to three conclusions:
1. She doesn’t take orders from Narrators
2. No one gave Amber Tamblyn or whatever his name is permission to levy a sex tax on her property

It's Saturday, I just ate my body weight in pancakes so I have some thoughts on CRAFT and what makes a book Commercial Fiction vs Literary Fiction. Hang out or mute. You do you.
OK, so in the publishing world we make a pretty distinct division between what is "literary" and what is "commercial." But rarely is anyone able to articulate what that actually means.
I love reading literary fiction but if you asked me to edit it I'd start with "buh?" and end with fleeing into the woods building a cabin out of fallen logs and starting a civilization of mushroom people I call my friends.
