I'd just like to say a few words about why I support @PawsomePensions. Some of you will know that our last dog, Jasper, was a retired police dog. We were really lucky to have him. Generally RPDs remain with their handler, but in this case it wasn't possible. 1/5
When we first got Jasper, we found only one insurance company would cover him due to his history. Most insurance policies bundle up medical bills with public liability, and so will not insure a dog that has been trained to bite, as PDs obviously are. 2/5
We had had Jasper for just over a year when he collapsed after exercise. We were extremely lucky and our brilliant vets (Dart Vale) referred us to the equally brilliant Heart Vets, who diagnosed an enlarged heart and arrythmia (dangerous heart rhythm). 3/5
The diagnosis and subsequent treatment burnt through about 4 grand in short order. All of this was thankfully covered by his insurance, but we were very conscious that the pot was 8 thousand in total. Jasper died peacefully last month after a very swift decline. 4/5
It was a great comfort to us to know that, had Jasper lived longer, @PawsomePensions would have been able to help us out with any bills not covered by his insurance. These dogs work tirelessly for us, let's keep them well in their retirements. justgiving.com/crowdfunding/p…
