With the news of the past few days and the connections of the NRA to our administration, it is important that we do not forget the Presidents tweet from the morning of Feb 17, the day I buried my daughter who was a victim of gun violence. I was angry then, and angrier now.
I ended up adding the following comments to my eulogy that morning becuase I was so upset. "I need to say one more thing. I heard about presidential tweets this morning linking my babies death to the Russia probe. The FBI made a tragic mistake, it needs to be dealt with.
But, I have not even heard from you. You are not going through what my wife and I are going through, and you do not have my permission to pull my daughters death into the Russia probe."

(1,4) I will never forget this Presidential tweet from the day I buried my daughter and the pain it caused me. The President received a full briefing from FBI Dir the prior day on Parkland shooting and knew it had nothing to do with Russia, it was a failure at a call center.
(2,4) He chose to lie about what he knew and made the death of my daughter political on the day I buried her. At the funeral in my eulogy, I mentioned this tweet and begged the President not to make the death of my daughter political and instead to work with our community and me

(1,5) The 17 victims families were invited today to the White House. While I am appreciative of those who went and thankful for the work that they are doing on gun safety, I chose not to go. Simply put, we were invited for a private briefing on the Betsy Devos safety plan.
(2,5) I have been critical of this plan as she has said from the very first day that she would not allow the commission to look at the role of guns in the gun violence that took the life of my daughter. You cannot honestly solve a problem if you will not look at critical factors.

"I was never a voice in the gun violence debate before, but I will be now. Let me be clear, I have been triggered. With you by my side, I will fight. For those of you who do not know me and what I can be like when I take on a cause, I will be relentless.
This will be my life’s cause going forward. The Orange Ribbon Movement started by Jaime’s beautiful dance sisters in Parkland Florida has become the rallying cry for the fight against gun violence. We will win, and we will be able to safely send our kids to school.

For the last 24 hours I've been texting & calling with refugees in Libya. 500 are apparently stuck in a Tripoli prison w/o food & water after heavy fighting broke out two days ago. They say their guards ran away, leaving them alone.
These refugees are men, women & children. They tried to cross the Mediterranean earlier this year, but were found by Italian boats, who turned them over to the EU-backed Libyan coastguard, who put them in prison. The conditions were already terrible before the fighting started.
Oh the phone earlier I could hear children crying & what sounded like bombing in the distance. The refugees say everyone's incredibly frightened. "We hear machine guns, tanks, big bombs, last night from the roof it was all fire."
