(1,5) The 17 victims families were invited today to the White House. While I am appreciative of those who went and thankful for the work that they are doing on gun safety, I chose not to go. Simply put, we were invited for a private briefing on the Betsy Devos safety plan.
(2,5) I have been critical of this plan as she has said from the very first day that she would not allow the commission to look at the role of guns in the gun violence that took the life of my daughter. You cannot honestly solve a problem if you will not look at critical factors.
(3,5) It is also well known that they intend to recommend arming teachers, yet have not taken any testimony on whether or not it is a good or a bad idea. I decided that I needed to be true to myself and my beliefs and for me, going to the
(4,5) White House, while it would be a possible once in a lifetime experience just felt wrong. I will continue my mission for gun safety and public safety and hope that this White House decides one day to join me.
(5,5) If they do, I will publicly embrace them. If not, I will work as hard as possible to be a part of defeating them.
