Morning. We are at the Rolls Building today which is part of the Royal Courts of Justice.
Sir Cliff Richard is due to hear the judgment in his privacy case against the BBC.
Reminder of the case: The singer is suing the BBC for breaching his privacy when it broadcast details of a police raid on his apartment in Berkshire in 2014.
The police were investigating a historical allegation of sexual assault made against the singer. Sir Cliff was never arrested or charged and the CPS dropped the case.
Sir Cliff argued, through his barrister in court earlier this year, that the information about him being investigated by South Yorkshire police was confidential.
His legal team also argued that the coverage by the BBC, which included the use of a helicopter, was excessive.
The BBC in court defended it’s coverage saying it was fair and accurate and in the public interest. Senior BBC news managers also defended the use of a helicopter to get footage of the police raid saying it enabled them to show the public what the police were doing.
The Judge has spent some weeks looking through the evidence. This is what he will have looked at: Whether the BBC breached the singer’s privacy. If it did, did the BBC have a public interest defence to run with the story.
This judgment could potentially have an impact on the way the media report the early stages of a criminal investigation.
Timetable for this morning: Mr Justice Mann who oversaw the case in April and May of this year will read a summary of his judgment at 9.45am in court 13 which will take around 10 minutes.
The judgment itself is very long which is why he won’t read all of it.
If you are interested the judgment should be posted here at some point this morning judiciary.uk
Television presenter and friend of Sir Cliff Richard smiled to the cameras and has now gone into court
Senior BBC News managers have arrived at court - Fran Unsworth - Director of BBC News and Current Affairs and Jonathan Munro - Head of Newsgathering. Both gave evidence during the case.
No sign of Sir Cliff yet. We don’t know whether he is coming to court today
Just been told by Sir Cliff’s PR that the singer will be coming shortly.

Sir Cliff has just arrived
Sir Cliff was smiling as he went into court. Thanked his fans who’ve come here to see him.
Sir Cliff wins his privacy case against the BBC
Judge says he will receive substantial damages.
Sir Cliff has now left court. His solicitor gave a statement before he left saying the singer was pleased.
Director of News and Current Affairs Fran Unsworth has just given a statement outside court. She says the judgment leads to a “significant shift in press freedom”.
BBC statement following judgment:
Judge found BBC far more responsible in terms of a breach of privacy than South Yorkshire police - the force which investigated the singer. SYP already paid £400,000 in damages to Sir Cliff.
A couple of quotes from the judgement to follow ...
Judge on the BBC’s public interest defence for reporting the story: “Knowing that Sir Cliff was under investigation might be of interest to the gossip-mongers, but it does not contribute materially to the genuine public interest”.
On the presentation of the story by the BBC: “presented with a significant degree of breathless sensation” ... “the helicopter shots added more, somewhat false, drama”
The Judge in his judgment says the BBC caused practically all of the personal damage to Sir Cliff (loss of public status and reputation, embarrassment, stress, upset and hurt) by broadcasting the story in the first place and repeating it over the course of the day.
BBC is now looking at an appeal following today’s judgment. Says judgment represents a “dramatic shift against press freedom”
