So the suggestion to do so is an invitation to forgive a toxic person by proxy for the harm he’s doing to someone else

If you suggest the answer to the present moment is to make peace and compromise w/ the extreme right, then POC and Muslims and LGBTQ people and chronically ill people, and many more, Know that you’re not addressing them. Because those people are excluded from Ben Shapiro’s world.

Marginalized people live in expectation that every person w/privilege who claims to care about justice will sell them out in favor of comfortable enabling comity, which is constantly being offered them by privileged people actively pursuing injustice.

This guy doesn’t care about tolerance, but he’s happy to use people’s better instincts toward tolerance to promote his intolerant agenda.

Refusing to normalize people like Ben Shapiro isn’t exclusionary, it’s inclusive. It’s refusing to ignore and abandon everyone the far-right would harm and marginalize and oppress.

Ben can join the party as soon as he stops being the asshole kicking people out.

One last thought, which because I’m tired I’ll leave unpacked.

This stance toward Ben Shapiro isn’t intolerance.

People really do misunderstand what tolerance is.

Not offended at everything, no; just offended at people marginalized and targeted for structural injustice and harm and theft and exclusion because of bigotry and greed.

I’ll admit there’s a lot of that.

It is interesting that for some that would seem like ‘everything.’

Offense is a given in a culture based on abuse and injustice.

The injustice will cause contention will cause offense. Inevitably.

So notice the reason for offense, and the target.

Is it offense on behalf of other social “groups,” for the unfair treatment they’ve received?

Or is it offense on behalf of one’s own “group,” in defense of the continued ability deliver unfair treatment to others?

Is it offense on behalf of one's one social "group," demanding fair treatment and justice, demanding the vote, equal representation, equal protection under the law, equal consideration in the world?

Or is it offense at such demands?

Don't talk to me about how "social justice warriors" are offended at every little thing. "Social justice warrior" is a term used by somebody who is offended by the demands of social justice. As is "snowflake."

A "liberal tears" mug is an expression of conservative offense.
