It's a nice, albeit sideways effort to address the Kennedy Center Honors' massive deficit of Hispanic or Latinx honorees.
And as @IsaacSpaceman has long-ago noted, they're not terribly good for Asian honorees, either.
Also, huzzah for Philip Glass! It's Koyaanisqatsi time.
Other Kennedy Center notes:
* There remains no non-"because he has a show on CBS" reason for LL Cool J to be in, but not Run-DMC
* Others weirdly-not-honored: Joni Mitchell, James L. Brooks, Neil Young, Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Glenn Close, and Gene Hackman.

If you want to remember Warren Zevon tonight, the 15y anniversary of his passing, may I recommend the LARRY SANDERS SHOW episode in which he appeared? It shouldn't be on YouTube, but since it is .... this is classic and perfect. Written by Peter Tolan.

It really bothers me to see REVENGE OF THE NERDS listed at all, let alone as high as 8th, on a list like this. Anyone viewing the film with contemporary eyes should be horrified by it. vulture.com/article/25-bes…

I spent the day listening to #ArethaFranklin and getting emotional more often than I expected.

I have always loved Aretha Franklin. I even loved the eras that other fans would've preferred to pretend did not exist.

In tribute here are my favorite

My mom used to sing this song to me whenever I was upset as a child, which was often. Elvis performed her favorite version.

I loved the original, but for me it's Aretha rendition and it's incredible vocal arrangement .

When she sang it looked both effortless and all consuming.

Like Tina, when Aretha covered a song the original often receded from your consciousness.

"Spanish Harlem" is Aretha's song.

She’s The Queen of Soul, no question - she was actually ‘coronated’ 1967 at Chicago’s Regal Theater. That’s the legend Pervis Spann presiding over an actual crown being placed on the head the then 25-year old Aretha, thus dubbed "The Queen of Soul".

That was over 50 years ago.

I distribute the lyrics to "You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman" first released in 1967 to my students when we are studying Civil & Women's Rights. I have them analyze the song's lyrical content. When I first ask them what it's about, they initially say it's a love song.
While the song was written by @Carole_King & Gerry Goffin it was first released by #ArethaFranklin on @AtlanticRecords & it's also featured on the "Aretha in Paris" album giving it a global audience in 1968 bit.ly/1jpMKz2

James Levine. I’ve been wondering if this one would come out. This has been an open secret in the music business since I was a teenager 40 years ago. There have been pay outs, police reports, etc.
When I became involved with the MET in the 1980s I 3 board members knew about, his protectors at the NYTimes knew about and wouldn’t protect it. This is one where literally EVERYONE who could do something knew.
One of the top music execs in the country told me 20 years ago when I asked “it’s all true, there have been millions paid in settlements.” I believed him. Levine has led an extremely sordid life that would have landed anyone else in prison long ago.
