So a few people have been asking about general word finding difficulties and temporary episodes of language loss. Firstly, let me just say that I am not a medical doctor. 1/2
An increase in word finding difficulties can occur with age.
Temporary episodes of language loss may be called 'aphasia' by some but the cause is temporary - diff to someone who has a brain injury that changes the brain permanently (even tho they may recover to some extent). 2/2

A thing I am dealing with now is studying cancer in test tubes and watching my father fight cancer in real life.
I know there are many scientist and doctors who experience this very same thing.

It was and remains a watershed moment that knowing more doesnt always mean surviving more.

Today I'd like to talk about jet streams, atmospheric turbulence, and climate change.

Why do we even have jet streams? At any fixed altitude, the north-south temperature difference between equator and pole causes the eastward wind to increase with height (wind shear).
You can check out the current positions and speeds of the jet streams interactively at earth.nullschool.net. (Change height to 250 hPa to move up to the altitudes where they typically blow the fastest.)
Jet streams move around from one day to the next and vary in strength. They play a crucial role in steering weather systems as well as aircraft (which enjoy the tailwinds on eastbound flights, but try to avoid the westbound headwinds).

Why does this climate change impact on phenology matter? Because it means that the regions TODAY that are best suited for the grape varieties planted there may not be the best in the coming decades
So what can we do about? Lots, it turns out.

People look for novelty in hopes of finding better answers to their problems

Truthfully, the answers to their problems are basic and obvious

Their search is a game of avoidance
People want silver bullet solutions to dead simple problems

Overweight-yes, you do in fact eat too much

Broke-yes, you do in fact spend too much

Unhappy with your life-yes, your problems and your life are 100% your fault
Your business failed because your service sucked

Your company failed because your product was terrible

You went bankrupt because your spending was out of control

You got cheated on because you married a Harlot and ignored everyone who told you this

People hate being called racist, antisemitic, Islamophobic, homophobic, xenophobic etc. Not just because they’re afraid of being labeled that way, but because they truly don’t want to think they are.

That means they’ll do anything to hide those feelings from themselves.
This is why our discourse around hate is so confused.

We think people *must* be consciously aware of their racism *and* open about it to be racist.
But most people are neither. Not just that, they’re horrified that they might be, especially since there’s probably a part of them whispering that they might be.

Most people who defended things like segregation and who support the Muslim ban refused to believe they were racist.

Few people are seeing the content posted here because of Throttling on the part of Twitter. Once you review my content, and IF you are a rational being who can compare my content to OTHER content makers, you'll scratch your head. That, dear sir/madam, should give you pause
Take me out of the equation, not that I have to write that......but I write it because ANY person who DARES to be honest about what they know to be the quality of their work (I was very successful in high powered environs) poses a challenge to male peacocks and misandrist females
But the issue is GREATER than one person......don't you see the overriding and profound issue? Censoring defamation and hatefulness and vulgarity is one thing, and I wholly agree with that, but censoring data that naturally would give folks FREEDOM from tyranny is quite another

I’ve peer reviewed A LOT of meta-analyses over the past few years. While I’ve noticed that the overall quality of meta-analyses are improving, many that I review suffer from the same issues. Here’s a thread listing the most common problems and how to avoid them
#1 Not using PRISMA reporting guidelines (or stating that PRISMA guidelines were followed, but not *actually* following them).

These guidelines provide a framework for the transparent reporting of meta-analysis, which can help the reader assess the strengths/weaknesses of a meta-analysis.
