The great divinities had already dominated earth and they lived happily with humans
Amongst them lived a man named OKO, OKO was seriously ill, when an Oracle named ELEGBERA told oko’s wife YEMOYALE ,

that the only solution to her husband’s recovery was for her to embark on a journey to get the seed of a sacred tree called ipin at the peak of a Mountain range without crossing the Sea but by foot, he warned her to be humble and submissive as she proceeded

It took her 7 days to get to the entrance of the mountain, she saw a strange looking man with a large coil of snake around him, he was surrounded with an hemisphere of multiple colors, his name was OSHUMARE( the deity of rainbow)

Oshumare demanded for sexual intercourse before he could allow her pass through him, she pleaded and explained to him why she needed to get to the peak of the mountain, but Oshumare insisted that until he lays with her, she would not pass through him

Yemoyala finally submitted and allowed oshumare lay with her, after this he allowed her through to the peak of the mountain,
She got to the peak of the mountain, she saw the sacred tree which she took its seed, she rushed home to her sick husband.

She prepared medicine for him with the sacred seed and herbs, few days later, he was healed
About two weeks later she realizes that she was pregnant for oshumare, she did all she could to abort the pregnancy,

but to no avail, she also hid the pregnancy from her husband by wearing clothes that would cover the pregnancy,

Few months later she lied to her husband that she needed to travel to her father's home town as she got a message that he was ill.

She stayed back at the village until the 9th month of her pregnancy, when the baby was due, she went to a river to give birth to the child, she wanted to abandon the child in the river, So she knelt down inside, and she gave birth to a son inside the water.

The baby rises up from the river as she turned her back to him, he said " you abandon me because of your husband, but you are unaware that the source of the sacred tree that saved your husband's life is the same source that brought me to this world ”

Yemoyale was surprised at this, she carried her son and headed home to meet her husband oko, she explained everything that conspired to oko, how she had sexual intercourse with oshumare and how she tried to abandon the baby.

While having the intense discussion with oko, a clear voice was heard from Heaven,
This child has been destined to be an AWO (a Diviner) and his name shall be called ÒRÚNMÌLÀ, (note: meaning “ Òrun-ni-o mo eni-ma-la " = only the heavens can tell the destiny of a man).

History has it that oko left his wife as he could not father a child that wasnt his, when orunmila was of age , Yemoyale went to live with oshumare at the peek of the mountains

Orunmila lived very old at oke igbeti as the greatest diviner in the history of yoruba
