NEW: American Oversight just posted the first set of records from President Trump's now-disbanded "voter fraud" commission in our case on behalf of Maine Secretary of State Matt Dunlap, who was illegally excluded from participating the commission: americanoversight.org/voter-fraud-co…
These records reveal no evidence of widespread voter fraud, contrary to what the White House and vice-chair Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach in the weeks after President Trump disbanded the commission.
The public has the right to know the truth about the "voter fraud" commission, so Secretary Dunlap is releasing the documents today. We've posted them here: americanoversight.org/document/pacei…
The documents reveal new details about the commission and its priorities. According to the records, multiple commissioners had an interest in mining data from government agencies in an attempt to find cases of voter fraud.
For example, In November 2017, J. Christian Adams, a Republican member of the commission, emailed all members and suggested asking DOJ for information on “un-prosecuted” election crimes and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for data from citizenship applications.
Republican commissioners also often excluded Dunlap and other Democrats out of the commission’s work. In an email, commissioner Hans von Spakovsky expressed alarm at the very idea that non-Republicans might get to participate: documentcloud.org/documents/4635…
A Pence aide provided Kobach with data on what he alleged was improper same-day voter registration in New Hampshire that was not shared with other commissioners: documentcloud.org/documents/4635…
McCormick and Kobach attempted to have a specific career DOJ statistician detailed to the commission, with McCormick telling commission staff that the she was “pretty confident that he is a conservative" documentcloud.org/documents/4635…
On August 30, 2017, shortly after he had left his role as White House Chief Strategist, Steve Bannon emailed Kobach an article about legal battles over the commission’s records disclosure, writing simply “WTF." documentcloud.org/documents/4635…
Most importantly, the documents show no evidence of widespread voter fraud. A draft commission report had a section with headings like “instances of fraudulent or improper voting,” but had no actual content: americanoversight.org/voter-fraud-co…
