@TuckerCarlson Looking at #nature we see diversity as not only a strength but a necessity for survival. When it comes to humans, however, we don't look at how much cooperation there is in nature which helps diversity thrive. Instead we limit diversity of thought which can stagnate minds...
@TuckerCarlson ...so we don't grow and thrive as well as we could. A crow doesn't ask an elk to be something it isn't. An elk doesn't ask a wolf to be different either. There are many lessons in #nature from which we can learn about being better humans.
@TuckerCarlson When it comes to #immigration few look at why America has done it better than most other countries, because we used to take assimilation into account more than just doing a body count. A common language helps a great deal in assimilating immigrants, yet we resist this today.

Sitting here in Denver waiting for a new plane (yay for the pilot who refused a broken one), & enjoying video of our fun bison encounter after filming wrapped yesterday. Growing up in CO we visited bison farms on school trips, but this was new to my NYC colleagues! #nature
Yes, that growl is from the bison. It's the sound you get if a tiger and a cow got busy.

(This is why I'm not a biologist. I would have too much fun laughing at the animals.)
Should've clarified: this was Yellowstone yesterday. I was just connecting through Denver today!

Competence is knowing what to do in a situation and how to do it. It is not the same as excellence.
Excellence is dependent on other people, like judges, examiners, teachers, assessors, inspectors, auditors. But we can't control these people and whether they think we're excellent or not.

1/ I finished @nntaleb's new #book Skin in the game, and here are my learnings, insights and notes.

Warning: this thread is going to be huge.
2/ Human systems are systems within systems, interacting in complex ways. No article / paper / logic can capture all interactions of such systems and their evolution over a non-trivial amount of time.

So fear one shot, large scale interventions (such as invasions, UBI, CRISPR)

#b 'Teknik menjawab' is not a series of rituals that you carry out to secure an A in the exam. You don't get guaranteed an A just through superficial actions like highlighting keywords or drawing meniscus or inserting isi tersirat.
The problem is students and teachers treat teknik menjawab as some sort of pseudo magical ritualistic gestures that will bring a certain outcome. Draw a pentagram, slaughter a chicken, and your wish will be granted.
Some remote Pacific Islanders in 1940s came in contact with Allied and Japanese soldiers who were more technologically advanced and thought the soldiers were gods who had many "cargo" (canned food, electronics, modern stuff)
