First, 100% agree with Marcus’s point here it’s critical. But I think this is also a case where it helps us appreciate the nature of the situation a bit better. This is no defense of the press. It’s beyond that.
2/ This isnt simply a case where press is following shiny objects and not focused on the core issues. We are in the midst of a genuine national crisis. And in genuine crises disaster response is almost always to a degree overwhelmed. There are too many fires to put out at once.

4/ secondary fires. And the fire fighters mobilized for the big fire aren’t at home for the regular local fires. Arsonists are finding out and they’re lighting new fires with impunity. Eventually, hopefully, we’ll get it all under control. But we shouldn’t fool ourselves ...
