1/ I just read @RVAwonk 's tweet which said only 28% of young voters (18-29) say they'll vote in the 2018 November mid-term elections! In hopes of increasing this number, this thread will explain how to register for the first time & provide resources to make the process easier.
2/ Mid-term elections are very important. On this ballot you may be voting for governor of your state as well as some of the people who make our country's laws. Here's a short, video explaining who can vote, how to register, and who to ask for help:

3/ There's also lots of useful information at usa.gov/vote

Don't be shy if you've never voted before, every voter was a first-timer once. Just showing up to vote will earn the respect of everyone you see at the polling place. Don't be afraid to ask for help!
4/ You may be eligible to register online. Go to vote.gov and select your state to find out how to register. 37 states allow you to register online, you can do so from this site.

You can also download the National Mail Voter Registration Form to register by mail.
5/ You will inherit the successes or failures that the winners of this election create. There is no law that says you must vote, but in a democracy your vote is necessary if you want a say in the future of our country.
6/ People might tell you your vote doesn't matter. Listen me carefully:

****There is no scenario where your vote doesn't matter.****

Votes have consequences-- all of which matter. Not voting has consequences, too.
7/ Want to learn about your candidates? Go here: ballotpedia.org

Be sure you have factual information on candidates. The government has alerted us that Russia has past& present online disinformation campaigns designed to sway your vote. If you have concerns, ask someone.
8/ Before you trust a news source, check its credibility online. Also, fact check things you hear from people, even if you know them. Both friends and family have mistakenly given me false information because they didn't fact check it themselves.
9/ Because we have many freedoms, like freedom of speech, and the right to worship the way we choose, your vote should reflect EVERYONE maintaining those rights. This is the foundation of America.
10/ Example, we do not make laws based on religion. There are multiple religions. Your religion may not always be the majority, would you want to live by another religion's rules? In order to maintain this freedom, we cannot ever force the rules of any religion on every American.
11/ Get your friends and family to register, too. If they are already registered, have them double check their information. Here are some common problems people run into at the polls: Who may have problems voting due to state or local requirements
12/ I hope to see a record turnout in the 18-29 age group this year. You are our future, you should help decide the direction we take. If you're a first time voter, let me know, I want to follow you and share the experience.

e pluribus unum-- out of many, one
