1. I predict that if Brett Kavanaugh becomes a Supreme Court Justice, this moment will play a major role in how historians tell his story. wapo.st/2m5QCfN?tid=ss…
2. The very first thing Kavanaugh did after Trump introduced him was to tell an obvious, transparent lie about the process through which he was selected.
3. Now why on earth would someone trained in the law, someone trained to be precise with one's words and claims, stand before the cameras and begin one's potential Supreme Court career by lying? In a normal political situation, this would seem immediately disqualifying.
4. I suspect we'll never really know the story behind that bizarre moment. The most obvious supposition is that Kavanaugh was being tested by Trump. He was instructed to lie (much like Spicer with inauguration numbers) to secure dominance over him, as a test of loyalty.
5. Perhaps there's a more innocent explanation for it. But should Kavanaugh end up being a SCOTUS vote that protects President Trump from legal scrutiny, then that opening moment of Cave-anaugh's (sorry, couldn't resist) SCOTUS career may end up looking quite significant.
