I don’t believe “everything happens for a reason”—that strikes me as absurd. I *do* believe that every instance of suffering has something to teach us, and being open to those lessons makes it possible for us to find meaning there.
The people who taught me the most about this are Viktor Frankl, Pema Chödrön, and Seneca. edbatista.com/the-art-of-sel…
My capacity for suffering of any sort—from physical pain to personal adversity—is highly contingent on 1) my *perception* of that capacity, 2) my ability to learn from suffering and find meaning there. This allows for agency under any circumstances.
