A few weeks ago I was asked by a journalist how they can focus more on climate change when "most people aren't interested".

That's the problem right there. Climate change is seen as an abstract issue, but it isn't. It will affect ever facet of our lives and our politics.
Think I'm exaggerating? Read this on Day Zero in Cape Town. This is soon going to be a reality across parts of India, China, Middle East, Mexico, even Russia.

If journalists can't even convey how climate change will affect people's food, water, house prices, incomes and even where they can stay, what's the point of journalism?
Spot on. This is how all climate change coverage should start: with a family affected by it.

I'm a strong and committed Remainer.

But I also think it's a mistake to force Jeremy Corbyn to commit to a second Referendum on Brexit. Labour members shouldn't go down that road.

Here's why:
If Corbyn says he is committed to a second Referendum *before* Theresa May's deal has been voted on, it will be a disaster.

Why? Two reasons:
First, May will immediately accuse him of helping the EU and trying to wreck Brexit. It will unite all Tories (ensuring her deal goes through).

Secondly, it will allow her to say Labour were always angling for No Deal, and are to blame from fallout of No Deal.

So this is Rod Liddle in the Spectator (apparently the *leading* magazine of the UK right), writing about how it's SO difficult to avoid being racist.

Let's talk about Rod Liddle's own history, since its not that well known.
In 2010, Rod Liddle blamed black people for "the overwhelming majority of street crime, knife crime, gun crime, robbery and crimes of sexual violence in London"

Ok. *deep breath* a thread on Labour and Brexit. ⬇️

As a strong Remainer I find it odd when fellow Remainers attack the Labour leadership (Corbyn / McDonnell) for not being against Brexit enough. Its unnecessary and misguided. Here's why
1) The Corbyn/McD stance is classic Triangulation. (Yes, the t-word is back!)

Of course they won't admit to it. But leadership don't want to lose the mostly working-class-vote that are strong Leavers. Will they attract Tory Remainers to replace them? Seems doubtful.
And the quickest way to annoy its Leavers is by telling them their vote didn't count.

For the Labour leadership, Brexit is not a concern as big as transforming the economy. THAT is the project they are building a coalition of voters for.

From the little study, they estimated the amount consumed daily to be around 1m sachet during peak periods.

Cesar Sayoc's style of online harassment is instantly familiar to anyone who has ever gone viral saying anything that pissed off the right wing in any way.
I know at least one person personally who he's sent death threats to on Twitter, and I assume the number is higher.
I didn't get around to checking my own timeline before his accounts were scrubbed, so it's possible I'm on the list too. If I were, searching would be the only way to know—death threats are common enough that I don't remember them, much less track them.

That is, 68 percent of the total land area on Earth.

Earlier this year, a long-distance flight was performed by Qantas, using 10% biofuel. 150 acres of mustard was required for this flight. ow.ly/byRP30lz8td
Suppose that we would replace all fossil jetfuel with 100% biojetfuel with the same area requirements as Qantas' flight.
Also, suppose that roughly 1/4 of all flights are long-distance & that short-distance flights require 75% less fuel than long-distance.

My essay is only concerned with climate change-related damages in the US spurred, as I argue, by US actors like the oil majors. I could’ve written about Peruvian villagers suing a German energy giant & melting glaciers in the Andes, but that’s beyond the scope of my article.

People seem to think "Nazi" is meant as a slur or term of abuse. It's not: it has a straightforward, literal meaning.
After WWII, there was a campaign to argue that Nazism had no real ideology, that it was just some group of people, to delegitimize it.
That had some value, but its downside was that people forgot that Nazism *does* have an ideology, and it never went away.
