As a contemporary, the drinking was out of hand at all the private (and public) schools in DC but Prep had the worst reputation, seeming for good reason. Tons of alcohol, hanging with girls only at parties is a bad recipient for the louts among us.
And I would not be surprised at all if this doesn’t lead to its own cascade of allegations.
Actually it's important that we understand this is part of the wagon circling, not just in GOP, but in DC elite. They don't want the HS behavior of them—or their sons—to be open to scrutiny.
And in conclusion, we need to do a better job of raising our sons.
If you aren't, from a very early age, talking to your sons about issues of consent and respect, you're failing them.
If you look at the class rosters for Prep circa 1983, you'll find not just Kavanaugh and Gorsuch, but Kennedys and Shrivers. And sons of lobbyists and more obscure politicians and power brokers. That's part of the wagon circling too.
There are, for some, compelling situations where single-sex education works. But if you cloister kids, then throw them together with a keg or three, it's not good. You can see girls only as conquests. And the "wishper networks" aren't as good.
Wagon circling is not unique to DC/coastal elite. Jock elite in Stubenville gang raped a girl and were aided in the coverup by coaches and school superintendent. But here the "elite" has the power to conduct a fair investigation and hearing, or pillory a woman on national TV
