[New Blog Post] Why We Cannot Trust the Published Empirical Record in Economics and How to Make Things Better

economistjourney.blogspot.com/2018/09/we-can…

That’s a big important one in which I discuss the evidence that there is a replication crisis in economics and propose solutions

\begin{thread}
I explain what the replication crisis is.
And the four contributors to it, the four horsemen of the apocalypse
I then discuss the main recent evidence that there is a replication crisis in economics: a recent paper by Abel Brodeur and coauthors that clearly shows massive underreporting of Null results and signs of questionable research practices.
I provide some real life anecdotes that suggest that this is really serious business, deeply engrained in how we work.
I then examine the proposed solutions, some that do not integrate Null results in the published record, and some that do.
I show what has happened when these tools have been applied in other fields or in Econ.
I end up by proposing a new initiative, the Social Science Knowledge Accumulation Iniriative, or SKY, to help us accumulate knowledge across fields and detect signs of publication bias using meta-analysis
Do email or DM me if you want to join SKY.

All contributions will be appreciated, we are still at the very early stages.
