1/12 THREAD: The 911 call came into the U.S. Border Patrol’s station in Tucson, Arizona, around midnight. Joselino Gomez Esteban’s voice crackled through from somewhere in the Sonoran Desert. He said he was lost. He needed help. His nephew had collapsed and wouldn’t respond.
2/12 The Sonoran is the final stretch of a 2,000 mile migration from Guatemala. Each year, hundreds die trying to cross to the U.S. from Mexico. The Border Patrol tallied 294 deaths in fiscal year 2017, but experts believe the figure is far higher. Some who die are never found.
3/12 Finding Gomez, 43, and his nephew, Misael Paiz, 25 proved difficult. The older cell phone Gomez used didn’t provide GPS coordinates.

In 2010 Murkowski won a WRITE-IN CAMPAIGN (you try remembering how to spell M-U-R-K-O-W-S-K-I) against a right wing Republican who had primaried her. He had GOP $$ and establishment support (including in Senate) as the primary winner. She won. 2
Since then Murkowski handily won her 2016 election, including with mainstream GOP voters, and isn't up for reelection until 2022. That's a long runway. 3

Ds should make this offer to the undecideds:

We will not go after you in the midterms (or later) and fully accept a Yes vote IF you will declare NOW that your vote on #Kavanaugh is NO unless you can be satisfied, from Wray’s notes, that the FBI investigation was not restricted.
Since it clearly WAS restricted, that would put the undecided Rs in an impossible position. Wray’s notes will undoubtedly show restriction. And if the WH refuses to turn the notes over, that TOO will show that the FBI’s investigation was restricted.
How can Collins and others possibly justify a vote to confirm #Kavanaugh in the absence of a meaningful investigation?

Would they allow this to happen to one of their own constituents if a similar credible allegation had been brought by THEM?

As part of his remarks, @JeffFlake told the Committee he'd prefer the Senate floor vote on Kavanaugh to be put off one week to allow for an FBI investigation. 2/
